Been awhile since I've posted in the musician's forum. Kind of on a creativity hiatus.

Anyway, I just downloaded Native Instrument's Guitar Rig demo, which allows you pretty much full access, minus recording & saving presets, that type of thing. The demo only lasts 30 days, and after 30 minutes, you have to restart it. The sound quality is very nice, plenty of very creative things you can do with it. I've spent hours just messing around with all the features. It's certainly not complete, but it covers all the basics VERY well.

Plugged my Parker P-38 directly into my M-Box and got some awesome sounds out of it. It allows to you choose different types of microphones, including condensor, dynamic, tube etc.. You can even adjust the placement & types of cabs.

But try it out for yourself, download the demo here. (http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=guitarrigpcdemo_us)

Ok, I'm going back to jammin'. I just wish the demo didn't run out in 30 days. I wouldn't really want to record an album using it, but it's perfect for writing demos of songs and so forth. Makes it much easier to fuck around with the settings to get that perfect sound. Best of all, you can place any of the effects/amps/etc.. in what ever order you want. Try it!

Ok, I recorded a quick little demo. I was surprised that I was able to record in Pro Tools using the demo version as a RTAS plug-in. I hate recording with RTAS simply because latency tends to fuck things up, but hey, whattcha gonna do.

Anyway, here's the result. I borrowed my friend's nice acoustic guitar, recorded the intro to Pearl Jam's Black, and just jammed on top of that. The actual jamming part isn't as nice as I would have liked, and the lead I chose under Guitar Rig is a bit much, but again, hey, whattcha gonna do.

BTW, tell me what you think of the acoustic guitar sound. I might borrow my friend's acoustic to record seriously if I like it enough.

The lead guitar is simply my Parker P-38 plugged straight into the M-Box, with the "Stadium" setting (or something like that).

After being able to play with this a bit, I've found that it would be an awesome tool for songwriting because it allows you to openly experiment with all sorts of possibilities. Recording using it would probably be passing, unless you have all low-end stuff anyway.

For the price they charge, it's a great value. They could use more of everything in it though, if they wanted to make it higher end. Does an excellent job recreating the sounds, which is quite amazing.
