Hi everyone

You may have seen a thread called:
"For Those Of You In LA ... the wall needs your help", which was started to rally volunteers to help out with some restoration work. The wall has been the target of tagging and graffiti lately and the owner of Solutions is concerned about it getting out of hand.

Feel free to read the thread if you want the full deal, but I'll summarise some of the important bits, then we'd like everyone to cast their votes on what they think should happen with the memorial wall.

First it was discussed that everything should be repainted over so the design was back to the original wavy lines. Problem with that is that all those wonderful messages to Elliott would be lost.

I suggested that anyone who's interested might like to get over there with a camera and take as many shots as they can upclose so the messages could be preserved. Would also be a great opportunity to maybe have an exhibition of the shots and/or a memorial book of the messages.

Someone else thought Elliott's name and dates should be added, plus a line or two from one of his songs (in a font like his handwriting). The two most popular so far have been:

From XO
I'm never gonna know you now, but I'm gonna love you anyhow

From Happiness
What I used to be will pass away and then you'll see
that all I want now, is Happiness for you and me

Another suggestion was that a silhouette of Elliott be painted on the wall as if he were standing in front of it and casting a shadow. Like the imprint he's left on our lives.

The last thing is that the owner of the store, Stephon, has this idea of building a life-sized sculpture of Elliott out of crushed up circuit boards and maybe having an MP3 player inside it playing his songs.

It is Stephon's store and it's a lovely idea, but some concerns have been voiced about this concept:

1. That it'd be an obvious target for vandalism
2. It's maybe a bit over the top or in-your-face for such a self-deprecating person as Elliott (and the silhouette idea might be more subtle)
3. That a bunch of crushed up electronics and metal sounds a little cold and mechanical, when Elliott himself was such a warm, human presence.

That's about all. If anyone has other suggestions, ideas, please share. It'd be great too if you could all cast a vote on which idea you think is most appropriate and fitting as a memorial to Elliott.

Thanks for your patience
xo

yeah me too, I'm totally puzzled as to how it ended up here. I'll re-post it in the main forum. OK?
