i have mono and i'm in my third week of feeling like absolute hell. i keep crying because i'm so frustrated and angry that i feel as bad as i do.

this morning i woke up and i had huge pustules (sp?) on my tonsils. they're so swollen they're almost touching! :(

please pity me.. or at least keep me company on blamo where i have to waste my time again.

Hi There, Am Pam

HAT!!!!! I got your e-mail, I've just been very, very lazy and lack motivation. 3 straight weeks of being sick? That must be awful. There is only one thing to say right now....

bram, danny says it's "M.E." to you folk, aka "yuppie flu." i imagine "M.E." stands for mononeucleosis, which is what mono stands for.

awww, hun, i feel your pain. i had mono the summer before i started grade 10. it was terrible. i was so tired, so sick. i couldnt get up for more than half an hour without needing to collapse and have a nap.
though i didnt want to die with mono. i wanted to die with pneumonia when i had it.

i just read your post again cat, i merely skimmed it before-- i'm sorry you feel so shitty, i guess if i really want to lose weight i should just give myself tapeworm. worked a few decades ago, why not now?

but yeah-- when i feel sick i forget what feeling healthy is like. it completely changes your brain chemistry, or it seems to, anyway... very weird. and a bit enlightening, in some ways. once, i had the flu, and one of the days i was completely uninhibited. it was like being drunk off my rocker but without the stupidity, slurring, and nausea.

wow thats exactly how I feel when I'm sick. Cannot for the life of me remember healthiness. Maybe its a brain reaction to make you rest as much as possible?

And yes Ive had many nice dizzy-spells when Ive been ill.

Just a week or two ago I felt like utter shit. I had a fever and a migrane and a throat infection, my back was out of alignment, and I was alternately shivering uncontrollably or sweating from the fever. I didn't want to die, but I kept whining and being pitiful the entire time. That was the sickest I'd been since I was around 6 and had a 104 degree temperature. Great timing, immune system!

Awww CAT I'm so sorry and I know how bad it feels, I had mono when I was 16 and was out of school for almost 3 months, nearly got held back even though I got good grades in all my classes and caught up with my homework in the hospital, just because I had went WAY over the "maximum" amount of sick days allowed, at that school if you missed more than their required number of days then you get held back no matter how good your grades are. But at the last minute we bitched at the school and showed them hospital records and they didn't hold me back.

Mono sucks sucks SUCKS, I never felt sicker in my life than when I had it. Plus it took the doctors nearly 2 weeks to diagnose it, I was getting blood tests every day and they all were inconclusive. Eventually they got a positive result for mono. I was puking so much that bile started coming up, and on an IV drip for a few weeks from dehydration.

I hope you get better, and I miss you a whole lot since you don't post on the General board too much anymore!! You are still one of the original blamo super cool chicks :D Hope you get better soon hon, go to the hospital right away if it gets any worse, they'll take care of you.

man, mono is the worst. it ruins your life. fuck, i'd forgotten how bad mono was.

Poor Cat, I've had mono when i was 19, it blew sooo much. I feel your pain, hope you get well soon :D

I think the sickest I've been was when I had the flu a few years ago and it turned into pnemonia D: that was not fun at all. I was practically bedridden for almost 3 weeks D: .

wow. hearing your mono stories makes me feel better. (mainly barbara's)! i'm not as sick as that.. i just feel shitty and my tonsils are gross.

in fact they're producing so much mucus that last night i threw up a couple times and all i vomited up was mucus! gross, huh? yeah. man thinking about it makes me want to puke again.

and cheryl, i've lost twelve pounds in three weeks. not cool. i mean.. it's kinda cool cause i like losing weight, but it sucks because i have not been hungry AT ALL. though today i am hungry and i really want to eat which i feel is a good sign! :)

LOL! That one is great. I'd miss my Pam :(. I'll work some magic.

The Will Ferrel one is rather generic, but good none-the-less. When he hosted SNL, the Queens of the Stone Age were the live performers, and they played "Little Sister", which is a cowbell driven song. When I first heard it, I, like many people, thought of Will Ferrel doing his thing. During that SNL performance, he came out and jammed on the cowbell. So perfect.

Remember this?

Oh Cat! I've never had glandular fever (which is what we call mono) but I know from earlier this year that blisters on the tonsils aren't fun! That throat infection I got (which I suspect was a nasty case of Nepalese strep from the lab, we were working on them) was the sickest I've been for a good many years. Do you have that constant burning stinging barbed wire being scraped down your throat, can't eat anything in case it bumps the tonsils pain?

I didn't sleep for two weeks and kept crying in the middle of the night :(

I really hope you get better soon!

Oh but to cure the pain I ended up getting this nifty but slightly scary-looking throat spray - it has a long thin nozzle and you spray down your throat and it numbs it to shit! It's also made of ETHANOL! (ALCOHOL!!) :) They're a godsend, hopefully you can find one.

ooh, thanks for the advice! i'll look for it. that sounds awesome.

and yeah, i know what you mean. i have a bit of a stuffy nose so i'm sleeping with my mouth open so when i wake up it's basically like i'm taking a piece of barbed wire and shoving it down my throat. good analogy.

however i've been gargling with warm salt water and also with listerine and i gotta say - it's really painful, but helps clear out the mucus and maybe a bit of the infection! i think i'm kicking mono's ass!

byeo yeah. even though it sucks a lot and i'd rather not be sick, since i HAVE to be sick apparently, at least i've lost weight. everybody keeps commenting! it rules.

that and i get vicodin for the pain. turns out i like vicodin.

Awesome! you kick that bitch!
Also, if you can find it it's kinda gross but they have betadine mouth wash which helps a bit too...it's basically iodine, a low grade disinfectant and anti-microbial.

And it's true you make antibodies to EBV virus but sometimes in some people they get sick again due to either the antibodies going autoimmune or perhaps they're just a bit weak. EBV hides itself very well from the immune system, it's hard to kill.
