View Full Version : I can not seem, for the life of me, to get my outgoing e-mail set up

After a whole lot of fucking around, I got my incoming e-mail to work. For some reason, my outgoing messages on either my personal account, or college account, will not send.
My hunch is that it has to do with open ports, as that is what the problem with the incoming mail was. I am behind a firewall, so I have a list of my open ports, but when I try using one of them, it still doesn't work. This is ass.
I'm using Mozilla Thunderbird btw. Any ideas?

That's not true! You replied to this thread, which gave me false hope!
REBOOT, GOODBYE
Outgoing mail (SMTP) uses Port 25.
Any errors?
What firewall do you use?
I use Thunderbird too. TWINZZ

I've tried port 25. I get an error message of "The message could not be sent because connecting to server SMTP mail.optonline.net failed. The server may be refusing connections etc..."
I think port 25 is closed on my computer. Would that matter?
The mail server is up and running
C:\>ping mail.optonline.net
Pinging mail.optonline.net [167.206.5.250] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 167.206.5.250: bytes=32 time=254ms TTL=242
Port 25 needs to be open to send emails!
