I've been hibernating lately, doing crazy things, sinking my teeth into The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky, which is quite amazing. It's very profound, in a very subtle way.

Has anyone else read this?

i read it two summers ago. it took me a while, like a good month... it's worth it though
actually they put out new translations of dostoievki's books (in french at least) that show more his raw way of writing. interesting

so, yeah, i'm all for the kara bros :D

Why do you say that?

I love his writing. I've about 100 pages left. It is keeping me from reading Lolita which i picked up the other day.

The Brothers Karamazov is indeed a great book.

Half-baked, half-brained sentimentality, lazy self-revelation, and a style influenced by newspaper columns rather than any aesthetic sense.

I was assigned to read it for my Russian Lit class. I didn't open it once.

Got an A in the class, though, so I guess that should tell me something about ol' Dostie.

i cant believe im responding to someone with a stanley kubrick avatar but here goes: stfu joob

i read BK for school. i had already read the idiot and CP on my own and i was looking forward to it. to me its a lot broader than these two but i liked them better. the grand inquisitor is pure idiocy and it pains me to see it published seperately from the book. its the work of a character in the book. not the work of F.D.

i keep the interpretations of dostoyevsky/dostoevski/youcantellalotaboutsomeonebyhowtheyspell it that make him my favorite author to myself, but i really do think hes written the best stuff out there with the singular exception of the stranger which wasnt particularly brilliant or cunning but was very honest and beautiful
