so, i just wasted what little decency i had on yet another shitty smashing pumpkins tribute cd... i dont even know what i was thinking this time. the first time i got one, i was like 13, so it's excusable, but after the second one, i should have realized, BUT NO! i had to get lured in and tried to have faith that i might find ONE good one. i think i've reached an all time low in branching out and listening to new bands, and now i've resorted to wasting $13...

I got that homemade lo-fi tribute cassette. It was totally a fanboy production, but that made it sortof enjoyable. I also discovered The London Apartments, and decently dreamy electronic solo guy. He did an EXCELLENT cover of Ugly on that album. I wish I could rip it to mp3. I hate tapes.
A friend bought me a Radiohead tribute CD once. It's awful.

IMO, I don't think the 'Gothic & Industrial Tribute' CD is all that bad. I like the covers of Eye, Cherub Rock & Frail & Bedazzled.
The way that Eye gets heavy towards the end is clever.

I don't own any tribute cd for any one...Most covers are lame as it is...and to put up with a whole album of them...I would rather listen to the spice girls or something....lame...

The first time i heard this Cd i was horrified!!
Now i can't make up my mind about it.
the songs you mentioned are good or the good ones.
TEITBIE was a waste though its pretty much the same exact thing with worse production than the original.
Industrial Gothic singers are scary!!!!

yeah, it's by no means 'great' but I get by with it. The covers of Zero, Soma, Today & Rhino are retardiculous.
The singing is the last thing that I like, but on F & B it's acually not bad.
...and why do they find the need to slow the tempos? Never got that.

Does this CD have a band called High Tigers doing a cover of Muzzle?
because that is a band my friend is in. I don't remeber the name of the cd though.
I'm just curious to know.

The only one I liked was the cover of Fitter Happier, and that was only because they weren't really covering a song--just using the mac voice monologue as inspiration.
Now that's an idea... instead of tribute CDs having a bunch of cover songs, they should feature really good songs by bigger artists that were inspired by the featured band. For example, a Pixies tribute CD would have Scentless Aprentice by Nirvana and maybe some Modest Mouse (can't think of a good example). The songs would be from existing albums, but the the influence of the Pixies would be obvious in every song. Then you could see how talented bands really honor their musical heros: by being inspired by them, not by doing shitty covers.
But then... I probably wouldn't buy the CD. I'd just look at the tracklist.

yeah, it does, and that's my least favorite of them all. they absolutely butchered it! they were playing it 8X faster than they should've been, and plus, it sounded like a shitty punk song...

Covers of songs should be reserved to drunken, bad playings in garages and bars, and never committed to cd!!

Yeah I only heard it once and i was pretty apalled.
But my friend is only the guitar player and not the band leader.
The band leader used to be In Murphy's Law a few years back and i guess that s why its all punked out. The dude also likes Kiss which is why it sucks.
I feel bad for my friend but hey you gotta get out there and play
to get experience ,so more power to him.

I did a shit ass drunken rendition of I of the Mourning in a Bar once. I Broke two strings before i got to the end.
My favorite Bar cover song is Thinking About you by Radiohead.
