Like on Inside Edition or when oprah does fashion shows for "affordable" clothes.
When I hear things like "this is a cute dress, and it's only $200-600" I'm like ONLY WTF, for most people I know, $200-600 is a weeks' pay!.
Or what even gets me more is whenever I hear about houses being "affordably priced" at something like $300,000 - $500,000 ;D What the fuck is wrong with people, no matter where you live in the united states, even if it is the average price of a house in your neighborhood, that is a lot of money to drop on a house, so please don't say affordable, since the average family makes like $46,000 a year and the average house in america costs $126,000. ;D
anyways, does shit like this bother anyone else?
when something is labled or marketed as "affordable" and it really isn't, it makes me have a hiffy.

I've never noticed that, although I don't really watch TV, so for the most part, I don't come across that. But yes, I can't imagine thinking $200-600 is an affordable dress/suit. A nice suit might cost $200 anyway, but I don't exactly think of it as "affordable". I probably haven't even spent $200 on all my clothes combined.

Yeah totally John!!! (erm, Louisiana John) haha
I've seen shit like that on TV a few times, fuck I hate in magazines though especially, where they have their political articles and entertainment reviews of movies and books and music, and then "The Fashion for this season!" and it's like "This purse is lovely! Only $1400!"
what a bunch of CRAP. I hate fashion anyway though. Take me to wal-mart or St. vincents and I'll get some fucking clothes :D

yeah, exactly. But, I know if I had that kind of money I would spend it like that, so. It's just my personality cause I'm materialistic as fuck. Single child & only child in my little family for years just did it to me.
However, I am very excited about IKEA opening one of there stores in Frisco [Dallas]. They have great/cheap prices on everything. Now quality on the other hand, I'll have to see with my own eyes.
But they have food too! This is all new to me, the closest one is in Houston.

yeah, people can be real shitty and dumb about what's considered 'affordable'; my old roommate, who had a lot of money (her parents did, anyway), she would always buy shit and then tell me and kate, "THIS PAIR OF UNDERWEAR WAS ONLY $50!!!" and then we'd be like, "that's retarded and way too much for a piece of shit like that."

The worst is that show "vacation home hunters" uhhhhhh, I just want to beat people when the host says "Mr and Mrs. Smith are looking for a home in (WHEREVER) and don't want to spend over $700,000. Then she show the finalists houses and there's usually one that's like $725,000 and they're like "oh we liked it but it was out of our price range". I wish I could smack people through my television.
I also love these wedding planning or home decorating shows that are like "oh we remodeled our kitchen but we only had $30,000 to do it" or "my wedding dress only costed $1,400!..now let's show you how to plan an affordable wedding..something like $400 a table" ;/ *STAB*

oh yes and if you own a vacation home that costs $500,000... and you ever complain about anything costing too much, including taxes, just kill yourself :D

I may sell plasma to buy shoes :-o
well, sell my plasma anyways
I love sales. I bought shoes for 12 bucks that were originally like 70. I bought some shoes for 4 bucks. Yay clearances.
My mom freaked out I bought a 20 dollar bookshelf at Ikea. She would let me buy 30 dollar jeans but not a nice dress shirt for herself at the same price, but she did find a similar shirt at Target. Now, those are deals.
I feel awful though. I'm starting up school and will be poor so I spent 30 bucks on just a lipstick and eyeshadow from m.a.c. I could have gotten the same shade for like a dollar probably:(

I once shopped at one of those "changing of the season reduce everything by 90% so we can get rid of it sales" and got the following for about $50:
- A really nice sweater
- 2 nice button up shirts
- belt
- socks
- bunch of other stuff I can't remember
The interesting thing is, I saved $110 off of the retail price. Now that's value shopping. Oh, and it was tax free week, which is a NY thing.
It's funny to me, last night I got myself a Slurpee and debated whether it cost too much for me. Somehow, I can't relate to Oprah.

i dunno, you can't hate people for being able to afford it and having a price in mind. that just seems like a silly complaint. :-*

what i'm trying to say honey, if if you are buying a Vacation home for 700k, and you find one you like but is 25k more, just fucking buy it, I mean you're already spending a fortune on it, what's another 25k.
I smack them not because they have the money to buy it, but because they complain that one is a few thousand more than the already obserd amount they are spending ;D
smack smack smack smack :D

Yeah, I'm a bargain shopper through and through.
What I hate is when people buy so much more than you need. I never want to buy a house unless I can REALLY afford it; I figure I'll buy a two-bedroom apartment or something, because that's all I need. I'd rather have more money to spend on things I think are worth it like travelling. As for vacation homes, why spend half a million dollars on somewhere you'll go for a week or two every summer? What a waste.

just because someone can afford 700k doesn't mean they can blow another 25! that's still a lot of money and the house itself is probably quite an investment. i just think the absurdity of the cost is relative, people spend way more than that on vacation homes so.

I like the "1928" line of costume jewelry, so I find it on the clearance aisle at Mervyn's! The other day I got a $45.00 necklace for $5.00! Awesome! I buy most of my clothes at wal-mart and target. Nike shoes are the only name brand thing I ever buy and they last like 3 years.
I think I could afford to buy better things, but it's stupid to, I've had $6 pants that lasts years longer than ones I've spent $35 on.

I like things, such as quality clothing items, that are under 100 dollars. To me that is affordable. But it rarely happens these days. Everything edges over 100 into like 120-150 dollars and upwards :( I'm the lay-by queen cos that way you only pay 20 bucks a week.
My best ever bargain snap was getting $700 worth of Lisa Ho for $50! Still thrilled about that.

here is a story about getting a real bargain.
once, i was in miss selfridge and i saw a really pretty bag, it was a big travel type bag, cord with a paisley design. I really really wanted it but since it was £35 and I would rarely have a use for it I couldn't justify spending that amount as it was only half way through the month and i was already financially embarrased.
Anyway, I was back in the same shop a few months later and lo..! the bag was on sale for £5, £5..!!!!!!!!
and that's not all. It was in the buy one get one free section, there were two of the same.. and since I couldn't find anything else I liked I thought I might as well get them both! so I got £70 worth of bag for £5... £5!!!!
beat that, suckas.
