Just picked up the new Sufjan Stevens record. It is absolutely one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard. 22 songs and all of them are unbelievably gorgeous and well-crafted. On the strength of this record, I shall be buying "Greetings from Michigan: The Great Lakes State" as well as the next 48 albums he puts out (one for every state).

Go buy it...it's worth your money!

Any thoughts?

Wow, a whole albums worth of stuff devoted to shitholes like Wyoming... wonder if Pitchfork will give it a 9 rating.

Boring.

have you heard either of the records? because it is FAR from boring. It's not like "ok, here's my acoustic guitar and my voice, and I'm going to sing about cheese curds."

It's much, much, MUCH more than that.

No, I haven't. One of my favorite pasttimes is talking out of my ass.
Rolleyes times five hundred.

If he's what you consider eclectic, or even inspirational or even original, pass the jerkoff sauce to me... I've heard it many times over. I'm going to spin Animal Collective's Sung Tongs LP, this afternoon. It's the same thing Stevens does, except more enjoyable and less gimmicky.

I confess I've only got two of their albums, and one of those (Junior Citizen) I don't really care for. The other one (Daisychain Reaction), though, I like a lot.

I've only heard "Greetings from Michigan" but I fuckin' love that shit.

I don't dig Iron and Wine and those other folks, but Sufjan is allowed.

WTF is gimmicky about Stevens' work? He writes intensely orchestrated, well thought out music...it's not like he's doing 'THIS SONG IS JUST ELECTRIC GUITAR AND DRUMS." or writing a song with Robert Smith. Tell me what his gimmick is and I'll tell you that you're wrong, k? :D

Still, it sounds nothing like Animal Collective, so I've not a clue what this person is talking about. Animal Collective is more like bizarre, Brian Wilson-esque campfire songs. Sung Tongs IS an amazing record, though.

the person admitted to being a pro at speaking out of their collective ass.

For the same reason that the editor of a newspaper can write "we" when it's only him/her.

Hi im new here. Ive been listening to Sufjan for 2 years now, since Michigan and I have to say his albums keep getting better. But I have to say, if your going to listen to him, please dont over look albums like Seven Swans or his first 2, A Sun Came and Enjoy your Rabbit, both very good. Enjoy Sufjan!
