Off-topic, but a while back someone posted something about the Offspring's greatest hits album and it generated a fair amount of replies.

My question: I remember reading long ago that Dexter Holland had applied for a job at McDonald's because he thought it would be a great experience. Does anyone know if anything ever came of this (or was he just making it up)?

That guy is a big doper, so I wouldn't put it past him.

An Offspring greatest hits album? I guess that'd be an EP.

Smash is fucking awesome. That's pretty much all their good material, to me.

Having not listened to the full album, I can't say. The singles did not impress me, but more importantly, when I watched their Woodstock '99 performance, it was pretty clear that the Offspring aren't exactly musically talented. I won't completely dismiss the band, but well, "Pretty Fly For a White Guy" and "Original Prankster". Yeah.

Yikes whoa whoa whoa, no... they completely changed their sound for commercial means, no doubt about it. But pre-1996, they were actually pretty good.

Download "Gotta Get Away" or even "Genocide" from Smash... a lot of the material sounds like surf guitar with a lot of Fear influence. Well, maybe not Fear, but at least something like it.

I haven't listened to the smash album in forever, but it is good. I have to be in the right mood to listen to them...and green day. and right now green day is REALLY getting on my nerves so I"m gonna hide that CD from myself before I get the urge to crack it.
