I forget who it was, but they found out about elliott by picking up a CD that dropped out of their teacher's bag as they were walking down the hall. The person later returned it, as they were actually friends with the teacher or something.

I tried this but my hubby thought I was crazy:-o I wanted my son's name to be Elliott Maurice (Maurice after my friend you drowned) but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I didn't get my way.

Mind you it's probably a good thing for I always thought it cheezy when kids in my grade school classes were named after John Lennon and other famous folks. They were always the ones getting beat up:( Mean kids

i have a friend who wants me to burn him ALL of my elliott cd's (separate note: is that wrong?) and i kinda don't want to because i just don't think he deserves it sorta, you know? like he should listen to one, a LOT, and then work his way up to another, etc. not just get them ALL and then figure out how much he likes it.

Oh wow, almost all 6 pages apply to me... (I am such a dork).

Okay, you know you're an Elliott fan when...
1) You dance around your yard blasting Amity on the stereo knowing full well that your neighbors are not only watching, but incredibly annoyed that this is the 8th time this week. You turn it up.
2) You write an elliott lyric with his name next to it on a desk in every class you have in hopes you'll open some person's mind to his genius and beauty.
3) You're too young to get a tattoo, so instead have no less than 3 elliott references sharpied on your person at any given time.
4) You throw things at your younger sibling because, although she is obsessed with Elliott and you support that, she only started liking him because he is incredibly hot.
5) When stuck at a stoplight you roll down your window and play elliott really loud in hopes the car over will ask who it is.
6) You sharpie "Listen to Elliott Smith" on complete strangers.
7) When you pick up a guitar your friends take it away and say, "You can have it back when you promise to play something BESIDES elliott smith..."

-When you choose to review "either/or" in the Entertainment section of your expository writing project (fake newspaper) in hopes that your classmates/your teacher/the people who'll be in the class next year will read it and be interested enough to check him out.

I would just like to take the time to mention that my teacher chose to put me on the newspaper staff next year (she's the sponsor)... so next year I'll definitely be talking about his music as much as possible. Surely someone on staff will be interested enough to check him out

pinned to your bra and panties......
and you have to explain that it is a
musician whom you love and for some strange
reason you have pins with his picture
pinned to your undergarments

then they ask you what you would say if a guy
was undressing you and saw them...
ya know another man's face pinned to panties...
apparently not a turn on...
and you say you would simply explain that your
body belongs to the man who's face is there,
but in light of his
absence you will allow them to borrow it

so maybe i'm a tad strange, but surely you understand

That is so weird, yet so cool. :D

...You're on the #12 bus coming back home from your parents' house and you start humming the melody for "Alameda" when you cross Alameda Street. Bonus points if you're listening to that song at the same time.

And more bonus points if you start mumbling the words and a couple of people look at you funny because you didn't realize you were singing aloud.

um....how do you not know when you are an elliott fan?

in any case-if you found yourslef celebrating his birthday the other day that ought to have sealed the deal. especially if said celebration involved listening to lots of his music and eating icecream as a tribute.
if you find yourself telling people "i know him/her through the elliott board" that oughtta be a good clue, too.

i knew i was an elliott fan as soon as i heard either/or- i thought "what the fuck is this? it is so beautiful! yes!it is good!" and that was that.

hey, you should be proud. one friend absolutely hates him in every possible way, musically (tried to get her into FABOTH first (it was the first one I'd heard) and she didn't mind it). then gave her some either/or and self-titled. (she hated them and didn't have any problem explaining her reasoning, which to me made no sense). another friend says he's good for his genre but just "not her type of music" and another one (who i only converted because all my sister and her friend (who is also a fan) talked about was Elliott) got into him through overhearing my twin's conversations about this "amazing musician named Elliott Smith that my sister and I like" in art class. ;) anyway, i believe i've already explained enough about the friend who had a negative response listening to self-titled and either/or, so i don't think i'll delve into that any further. it pisses me off just thinking about it, with some of the things my friend said...

Also, I used to pack stuff for my parents buisness, and all day I would have Place Holder Stuck in my head.

. . when his songs are more personal to you than the ones you've written yourself.

i work at a music store. everyday i work i check to see if anyone bought any, and check the section .. .and tidy it up. . .put them in order of release. i work with a girl who isn't really a fan (doesn't mind him, but not crazy about him) but i catch her singing along because i play his music so much in-store.

my girlfriend, who is a huge huge huge fan, even thinks i talk about him to much.

birthday and christmas presents to friends are only what elliott cds they don't have yet.

when you download/buy every cover someone did. . .no matter how atrocious (lifesavas anyone?)

You might be an elliott smith fan if
you go to every open mic night at every bar/coffee house and ask every person playing if they know any elliott smith and after they think about it for a good 30 seconds and tell you "no, they dont THINK so" you disgustedly mumble to your friends that the poor jerk probably hasn't even heard of him and after hearing what they have to play you think maybe it's better this way anyhow

Sweet Adeline (her grandmother is/was one)

Little One (how she refers to her child)
