hey someone else knows them! they were the second opening act for the bright eyes concert i went to, and i was very impressed... at first i was like, i really dont like this one chicks voice, it was soo high pitched at times it was painful, but when she toned it down it was so beautiful.. and when they played jesus loves me i was like, ok, i am a fan. anytime someone can take an old bullshit song and twist it into something amazing, i am in love.

they sound really weird. the only time i ever heard them was on someone's cell phone. then i sorta got my heart broken within the next couple days. so i fucking hate them.

thanks - i've checked out a few songs and they sound very interesting ... sort of avant-folkish (goddammit i promised myself i would never use that term). but yeah, i immediately thought of joanna newsom -it's strange to me that i've never heard this band mentioned

yeah it's sort of strange how we associate emotional states with audio/visual stimuli huh? i listened to belle & sebastian's "boy with the arab strap," and nick drake's "pink moon" repeatedly after a break up about a year ago, and every time i listen to them now that sort of post-breakup sickness floods my veins. eh, still love both albums though so i bear it.

Just in case you dont know : one of the girl is devendra banhart's girlfriend. I think it makes sense when you listen to them. They're also friends with joanna newsom and a guy named antony : if you like any of the 4 just listen to the other 3 and you should be pleased.
But well i think cocorosie are my fave amongst them all, their album is really really great.

I saw these guys last year when their first album came out. they are brooklyn girls by way of paris who looked like they must be breakdancer kids. sound like billie holiday humping prince vince gallo on am radio bouncing back to earth from deep space, or over tin cans on string. a postmodern version of the roches. "not for sale" is my favorite song. they were opening for blonde redhead in europe last summer

yeah that makes a lot of sense :) Also reminds me a little of Matt Ward. I am listening to Good Friday right now. I really like it, although at first I thought the chick's voice was bloody irritating, but it's steadily growing on me. What are the rest of the songs on the album like? I'm tempted...

Great description. I saw Devendra Banhart (who went to my high school by the way) at tonic last year and cocorosie was there and he called them up to play with him and hang out. Theyr'e great and i suggest everyone get cocorosie, devendra banhart, and antony and the jonhsons cds. Which one is devendra with? the younger one with the really short bangs? or the one with the darker hair?

i went googling... i love devendra, so anything devendra related peaks my interest. the little snippet i heard from their site is interesting but i'm always a little put off by singers trying to sound like billie holiday. she didn't have to try, that's just the way she sang.... but it sounded interesting.

i have listeened to their cd acoupls tiems but it isn't anythnig that stands out as manginficent, to me. but i think they are fun and given the right timing the msuci is good to listen to.
they know soem people i know adn when i didn't know that and mentioned readinag na article about them and wanting ot hear the music one gal starts groaning and going "ughhhhhhhh. them!" apparently they ahd beenahnging out at her pad, in chicago, and they weren't that exciting.
however that doesn't mean they can't make good music..i think that when you are in the mood for something like what they have concocted it is grovovy but it's not the sort of album i would wanna hear everyday.

when i heard them live, i contemplated suicide, as well as mercy killing on the hundreds of kids around me, who were yelling at them to stop.

they opened for m ward. operatic voice (beautiful), model looks and they play toys. hmph kinda gimmicky, i'm getting tired of atmospherics because they're "cool" stick to the tune, stick to the story.

yes, but they use them well, to be fair, it's not like their just gimmicks, although it's a bit touch to listen to at first, but give it a little more time and you see that it's not all so superficial
