Hi everybody,
Well, we're one step closer to making this project a reality. I ran into an old high school friend who just happens to own his own production company and he has volunteered to help with the editing side of things for free. Oh yes. So, all we need you to do is for you to film stuff and send it in. There isn't a medium he can't handle. His company is called Future Media http://www.futurenetmedia.com in case you'd like to check them out.

We need filmers for all the events that are about to start happening, and we need you to sign up soon. I also would like to talk to someone who knows how to do animation about the title and credits sequences I'd like done. I know nothing about animation, so it would be helpful if your knowledge is moderate.

As you finish filming, contact me by PM or email and I will give you my address. I won't post it here because, as we all know, Martijn is a stalker. :) And he especially likes short Texan girls. :darn:

Please sign up here, tell us what you're willing to do. Interview yourself or interview everyone you know. There is another thread with the stuff you have to agree to before sending your film and the questions we want asked. It is here:

http://www.blamonet.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54522&highlight=future+butterflies

Thanks guys. Woo! This is totally happening!

Yay for Future Media! :)

I still need to figure out what I can do as I don't have a video camera.:darn:
I will probably come visit you at some point, Jess. I'd really like to be interviewed by you. :)

Hey you!

I think the best thing that we can do for those without video cameras is have people announce here if they can do interviews in a city or region or whatever and then you can get together with them. You know?

So, if you would be willing to travel a little bit, please post that here. Include your location, the surrounding areas you will cover, and the dates that would be good for you. Then, people without video cameras, contact the person by PM and set something up.

I believe in you, kids. I believe in all of us. And in Elliott. :)

And, yes, please send all footage raw and unedited. :)

Many thanks to the charlie for making this thread a sticky. He's going to give us some space on Sweet Adeline after the album comes out too.

Oh! And if you are attending or in charge of one of the many tributes that are going on this month, please get with me or Ken about filming them and doing some interviews before or after your event. We'd really appreciate it!

I have the flu, today, I think. So, I'm going back to bed. I leave this in your capable hands, Sweet Addy. :D

I'm going to be at the rilo kiley/earlimart/the elected/the firery furnaces(who I don't know, are they good?) show on oct 22. I'm thinking since these bands have Elliott conections, rather strong ones, I could see about intervieving them(though unlikely) for the doc. But I don't want to offend, or rub salt in wounds that will prolly, at this time especialy, be big. Would it be rude? Rilo kiley I prolly couldn't get to, but Aaron isn't as known, and obviously would be knowledgable. If sweet addy was behind it, it's more likely.I'm blabing now. But tell me what you think. ~Love Tara

Yes, please. I feel that the more footage we have the better the doc will turn out.

Even if you just want to chase people in the streets with your camera, that's OK with me. :)

I want this to be as inclusive of a project as possible. :)

And we need more volunteers!

You don't have to be experienced, you just have to want to get the word out about how Elliott's music had a positive impact on our lives!

What do I ask then. Perhaps the questions should be diffrent because they knew him.

pointyjess
10-17-2004, 11:10 PM
Here are the questions I thought of for people who knew him. You can use all or some or think of your own or more. :)

What has your experience with Elliott's fans been like?

Do you feel that Elliott is accurately portrayed in the media? Why or why not?

What do you think attracts people to Elliott's music?

How do you like to remember Elliott?

Share your favorite Elliott story or memory. (If it isn't too personal.)

And here are the questions for us regular Joes. :D

What draws you to Elliott's music?

How has Elliott's music impacted your life?

How does Elliott's music make you feel?

Who have you connected with over Elliott's music? How did you connect with them?

Do you think that Elliott is accurately portrayed in the media? Why or why not?

How do you like to remember Elliott?

What kind of fans do you think Elliott's music attracts?

Share your favorite Elliott story or memory.

Thank you! I like those alot. I'm gonna have to look into getting a video camera into the venue. I am e-mailing Aaron right now. Can I say that I'm endorsed by sweetaddy/future butterflies? Well, I'm gonna go ahead and say that, and give him a link to this thread, and the old one as well. Oh and I hope that mini cv cassettes are okay!

pointyjess

Yes, everyone is endorsed by the Future Butterflies project. Except maxnugget who just keeps sending in videos of her nude ballet dancing. THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ELLIOTT. Well, very little.

And any kind of format is OK, this guy we're working with from Future Media is a genius. :D

Hi! Maybe you've visited sweetaddy, and I'm sure that you know of it, but the members are trying to make a RESPECTFUL documentary on Elliott, called "Future Butterflies." I'm going to be at the Austin show on Friday Oct. 22, and I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions, and film it. I think that you would have an amazing perspective, and a more accurate one than what "the media" is giving. I assure you that this is legitimate, and done by people that truly appreciate and want to respect him. I understand if you are hesitant, have concerns, or if it is too emotional, but it is being done by very good people across the country, and world. Here are some links to the threads in which this is being planned. Let me know if ! this i! s possible! Either way, I am really looking forward to seeing the show!!!

What's up all.
So, If you are in NYC and want to be involved with this
project but don't have the technical means, well, here's your chance.

I'm willing to meet up in the city and shoot footage on my
DV Cam of you talking about Elliott or doing whatever you'd
like to do for the project. I'm even up for visiting some of
Elliott's favorite places here in New York.

I have a few weeks off work, so the sooner the better.
I want to help POINTY out on this and make it a great
project for everyone.

ok. cool.

Hey there. I don't really know if there was a deadline for sending stuff in, butI'd love to contribute, if possible. I have a lot of friends who are into Elliott and I could interview some of them, as well as some local musicians from the area. I just heard about this, cause haven't been on the board for a while, but if anyone has any info on where I can submit footage or anything of that nature, e-mail me at benbrackett@yahoo.com (some of this info is probably mentioned in the thread, but I'm late for work and I don't have time to re-read)

Thanks!
Ben

I think my favorite part is that the chorus mostly consists of "Duh duuuuuuuh." That or the Christina Applegate reference. :-D

And on a Future Butterflies note:
WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS
If anyone is doing anything related and I could persuade you to film it and ask some people some questions about Elliott, please pm me, email me scrumtrillescent@sbcglobal.net or post here. Please, please, pretty please. Thank you for your time.

Yay! I got the interview! Jim Fairchild and Aaron Espinoza are awsome! Ya'll will have to forgive my poor interviewing skills, and various deisle trucks going by, but hopefully the editing company can help w/ that. Anyways, the show was great, and they were wonderful. Pointy, what do you want me to do w/ it now? I could film some other people so as to not waste the film. When do you need it by, and who do I send it to?

pointyjess
10-23-2004, 08:48 PM
I would like to have all the film in by the first of next year, please. This is a long, slow paced project so no worries. And yes!!! Please interview some more people. The more the merrier, and the more representative of the far reaching effect of Elliott's music it will be. :) So please, go forth and interview.

As you all finish with your tapes, please PM or email me and I will give you the address to send them to. :)

If you're having trouble finding people to interview, try organizing an Elliott event in your town. It could be anything from an open mic to a screening of Lucky 3 or Strange Parallel at your local rec center!

Thanks again for all the time and effort guys.

10-23-2004, 08:51 PM
I almost forgot, when you interview people please have them state their name (how they would like to be credited in the film) at the beginning. (And I will, of course, edit that part out.) If its a weird name, have them spell it.

Thanks. :D

I didn't and did miss them at the same time... I was at the concert, but had to leave the room because my throat was reacting to weirdly to all the cig smoke. BLAST!

Anyhow, I saw the Fiery Furnaces mentioned, and just felt the need to say something.

Whoops, yeah, sorry. Busy weekend.

Future Butterflies Is:

A documentary about Elliott Smith fans, by Elliott Smith fans. I want it to be a filmed mosaic of people talking about their experiences with Elliott's music and the effect the music has on their lives. And we'll have lots and lots of Elliott's music in there, as much as legally possible. :)

Why we are doing this:

Out of respect and love for Elliott.

To balance out the sometimes incorrect things the media prints about Elliott.

I hope to donate the actual film to the Memorial Fund for them to sell or release or whatever with hopes that it would make more money for the fund than I could give myself. I'm not even sure what the legal ramifications of that would be or responsibilities or feasibilities so...ah...we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. I want to have a finished product before I take it to Elliott's estate/manager/lawyers.

What can you do?

We need:
people to film interviews
people to participate in interviews
(and for people that don't mind filming but don't want to be the interviewer, we need someone to ask the questions.)

People who want to be interviewed can either film themselves talking about Elliott or can organize an event in their area to bring Elliott fans together to be filmed.

People who want to film interviews can post here or PM me and let me know what area they'd be willing to cover and then we can work together to organize an open mic or something to bring Elliott fans together or we can, like, send people to your house to be filmed.

Once you're done filming, mail the tape to me and I will do my best to make sure everybody gets to make an appearance, but there are no guarantees. Oh yeah, and no one is getting paid for this. Not even the film editing and production guy.

Thanks for your time and interest. :)

Hey, that's cool :-)

Hm, if I can get the right programs somewhere... well I don't have so much time but technically, I'm a multimedia designer and I used to get all the good marks in animation and video stuff...

I might not be able to do everything but if you need something that doesn't need as much time as a full time job, I'll give whatever you need a go :-)

And hello btw :-o
