i just found those 2 newly available songs here about an hour ago!

by the way, i meant the title of this thread as a somewhat qualified statement--i was just trying to put into words this unique quality i get from his music...something about having awareness of his own and other people's difficulties

i think i remember him saying in an interview he wanted to write songs about what it's like to be a person...

maybe that puts it better...

welcome back dannys
another of your thought provoking threads

i was thinking about how Elliott's lyrics fit so perfectly together...every song, really...i wonder if he worked at getting that perfection or is that how it just flowed out of him?

like i was thinking of other songwriters - some use words sparingly, some write entire stories into lyrics, some use the music to emphasize what they're saying, etc. but Elliott did it all...his instrumentals said more than some people's lyrics do...he could be spare with words - like in no life - or he could tell a story perfectly - like in division day or a passing feeling...but no matter which way he did the song, there's a quality of perfection...like no other words would fit so perfectly as the ones he chose...

come back more often danny

Not really. His music has had such a profound impact on us all that it's hard not to care for Elliott so strongly. That's exactly what his music does. My sister just recently became a fan and cries when she watched documentaries and live shows, because she misses him and thinks it was such a terrible loss.

I don't miss Elliott. Regardless of what anyone says, he's always here with me in my mp3 player, on my computer, whenever I'm feeling not so good or really good I can just turn him on and he can relate. He's the best friend like no other, it's like his music is totally me. The greatest thing about his music is how the melody has these child-like beautiful qualities, yet the words have this really grim reality to them. Like you could tell he went through something, but he did look forward to the future. He was essentially like us all, which seems so cool. I don't know, whenever I listen to him, I don't really hear "dead guy", I just find it hard to imagine this guy so full of life and energy, gone. It's insane. And the fact that most of this stuff I'm listening to, I remember the time frame in which it came out and what I was listening to and watching at the time, and if only I was a little older I would've completely appreciated it!

hah, i love this aspect. The way certain music has the ability to act as a mental time machine. Sometimes it's hilarious, and sometiimes too overwelming for me to handle.

Yes, alot of his acoustic songs sound like lullabies to me, but the lyrics have so much depth, and the melodies are too complicated for them to actually be considered this way.

I would say I don't miss Elliott the person. I never met him, or went to any of his shows, or followed him when he was making the music. I do wish he was alive, and making more music though.
