There was a really hilarious picture of Elliott that I always loved. He was at a laundromat in Chicago wearing a shirt that said something funny, like a breakdancing slogan. Anyone have that one?

i LOVE this thread!

i hadn't realized before how many of the collective elliott pics have him smiling... he had such a lovely coy, shy type of smile...

this one i kinda made, got the pic online somewheres and put the 'rip' on it. a bigger version of this now resides on my office door, and there it shall stay.

I'm not mad at all, I felt rather honored you chose it! I like what you did with it, Elliott looked so happy at that show.
I did not have time to look at the entire thread, but, when I have a moment, I'll post again the pictures I took at that show.

That photo pierces my heart with beauty. I always adored his eyes, and so few photographs captured the true beauty within them, or that would shine from his face.

It would make a beautiful alternate picture sleeve for "Pretty (Ugly Before)." Just a thought.

Really good close ups and s nice shot of Elliott laughing when someone yelled out "You're handsome!" Good stuff.

Please everyone. ..they are not PIGTAILS. . .they are braids. ..and my people (Lakota Indian people), our men included, wore two braids for many reasons, which was of honor and respect. Willie Nelson, who I've worked with before knows this, and always shows alot of respect when he comes to be with us. (He's done alot of benefit concerts for our environmental work).

I don't know the reasons for Elliott wearing braids but they are not pigtails. I feel very honored that he wore his hair that way, even if it has nothing to do with the reasons I mentioned. If anyone does know, I'd be interested to hear.

i think it's very possible that elliott did know about that... he knew lots of cool stuff.

besides, i think i remember him having some kind of philosophy or principle with regards to growing his hair long... i don't know. maybe it was just a general "fuck male stereotypes, i have long hair"

thought so...i was there..right there..up by the stage....it was so intimate, because everybody that was there for the awards had left by then, and the only people who stuck around were there to see elliott,....there really werent that many people there by that point, and a lot of people left because they fucked up on the scheduling and someone else played in elliotts supposed time slot...so a lot of people thought he wasnt gonna play and left...
so yeah, it was just a few of us, up near the stage....it felt like he was just playing to each of us individually...
we waited in line outside of the fonda for about 5 hours before the show, in the heat...because they werent selling tickets for the show, it was first come first serve with a flyer from the internet...
it was sooo worth it..
and that was the last time i saw elliott live..

I don't know the reasons for Elliott wearing braids but they are not pigtails. I feel very honored that he wore his hair that way, even if it has nothing to do with the reasons I mentioned. If anyone does know, I'd be interested to hear.

I remember someone posted that Elliott said at a concert "I'm part cherokee." I have no idea if there is any truth into this, but I'm sure I read that on this board. That would be cool if someone could confirm this.

I never heard that before but I wouldn't be surprised. I would love to find out if that is true. I know he was always real respectful to me, like the way we treat our elders, and I am an elder to him, being so much older. He never mentioned it, but then he wouldn't.. .he's very humble that way.
Thanks for telling me that llaurens, even the possibility has really made my day. . I'm glad I said something about his hair/braids.

Hummy, thanks so much for sharing this information. I'm glad that it came directly from Elliott himself.

At one point when I was working on the biography, I was in touch with a family member, who was sharing some information and, more valuably, perspectives with me (with the proviso that it not be used in the text, and I honored that). In my last letter to this person, I inquired about the family's ethnic background and Elliott's specific ethnic heritage. I had thought he looked Inuit, personally. I didn't speculate though, but no response ever came to that letter, and I figured that the family did not want their ethnic heritage to be discussed.

If that's true, it's sad. Elliott had every right to be proud of his Cherokee heritage--one of the great tribes of this land.

Thank you again for *finally* answering my question. better late than never, I guess.

xo, Steve

That'd be my page. :) How'd you come across it? Well, as it says on the webpage, they were taken Sept 11, 1998, in Portland when Elliott played at a record store not long after XO had come out.

That's actually my shoulder and arm in the 2nd photo, but I have cut myself out since I look horrible in it and you'd probably think it was photoshopped since I look like a cardboard cutout standing there.

Anyway, glad you liked the photos. And thanks for starting a whole new thread for it. :)

The piano photos are really great!!! I also love the black and white one that hummy posted (like ten above the piano ones) of elliott in a model like stance. There are so many great one's. He is beautiful! I once saw a silouhette black and white drawing thing of elliott at a piano, on a website a year or so ago. When you pushed the link it moved like a cartoon and he played piano, but only about 10(?) or so frames...one of his songs played simultaneously. It was super-cool. Does it exist anymore? does anyone remember it or know what I'm talking about?

Guh, I hadn't seen that picture before (You hum it, he'll play it). I think I've seen them all, them I'll see a new one and I get a lump in my throat and a 'punched in the stomach' feeling.

Thanks to everyone who posted these pictures. They are so great...sigh...its nice to see that Elliott's fans are still sharing his radiance with each other.

Hi Ferd- I'm pokey, and I feel thankful too. I think we all are fortified by the fact that elliott existed at all, even though he did not live long, those he touched ( so many, and many more that do not post here for whatever reason) will remain touched forever. I am grateful for what I could see mirrored of myself in him, someone I never got to share a glance with, someone who never knew he was with me, a spiritual brother of sorts...

and to see the smiling fun pictures mean the very most to me now, so I don't have to cry quite so hard for him anymore.
