I am lying here listening to Elliott on my headphones which is something I haven't much too long.
I met someone tonight, while strumming guitars and me professing Wilco as the Ultimate Band, who blurted out"my favorite will always be Elliott Smith".

I had to check myself because this never ever happens. And mostly, I have not listened to Elliott in a good long while..

Not consciously, of course, but I've just avoided listening to his music (even though I make sure that I have every song he ever recorded on my ipod) because it has become too painful; and depressing.

I remember meeting you at the Ameoba show in what must have been '98 as it was the XO tour, I believe.

I also remember approaching Eliott to get my album signed. I said "I promise I'll pay for this before I leave" and he replied "Oh I don't care, go ahead and take it".

I'm not surprised at that at all. Was there not a interview or show or something when he said something about releasing an album and then he was like "not that I'd care if people bootleg it" or something like that.
