Could anyone here name off some of the acoustic guitars Elliott most often played. I usually see him with his Gibson J-45 or a Yamaha but thats all I know.

you've got it right, there. those are elliott's two main acoustics. the j-45 is from the 60s, and the yamaha is an fg-180.

i think the yamaha has a red label, but not the 'nippon gakki' tag so i don't know where or when it was made. probably about 1970, give or take a couple of years.

if you want more info than that, a search for old threads would be helpful.

Are you sure he played an fg-180? I ask because I want to try to get something similar to what he played. Under the faq of sweetadeline, it says go to the new monkey website to see the equipment he used, and there it says yamaha fg-110. Here's the link:

Awesome, thank you. The one I'm looking at now is missing one of the original bridge pins and is replaced with a homemade one. The person says it's solid and has a good rating on the site. Does that matter too much?

i don't know about a homemade one, but you should be able to pick up a replacement pin pretty easily.
just make sure to get photos of the string height, label etc before you buy. all the best!

I found a perfect image of Elliott at the Oscars. You can see the red tag inside of the sound hole, its an FG-180. Thanks for your help everyone.
