vBulletin now offers blogs for a $50 fee, would anyone be interested in having a blog on BlamoNet or have a personal blog on here?

I think it would be neat, I might actually use it as I hate mySpace and Facebook. I generally just stick around here.
The next version of vBulletin is a HUGE update, basically they redo the entire User CP and almost creates personal pages for everyone with Blogging, Image Gallerys, Comments, Friends lists... it's pretty impressive. So I think the Blogs would be a good fit with the direction they are going :O

Another site (based on invision...I think) I use recently updated, and the profiles on that are now more like a social networking site. It's good as you can tag photo's, have personal galleries, comment on profiles, add 'friends' to your profile. They don't have a blog or anything like that, I think they could if they wanted to, but they probably just turned that option off.
I have a blog which I paste crappy stuff on for friends etc to read and as a repository for things...I could maybe use a blamo blog. Even if I can't I'm sure other people can. Good idea

Wow, I didn't know VBB had come so far.
Aaron, do you know if they're going to make it easier to make forum themes in the future?
I probably wouldn't use a blog here, but I would probably buy VBB just to use on a project because there are some fucking KILLER Wikipedia <---> VBB content bridges

wait so is blamo going to use the new vB? sry i don't know anything about life
that all sounds really cool but also scary! i'm scared things would get cliquey but probably not, right? i hate facebook and myspace too and don't have one but i would use the functions of comments and blogs and stuff on blamo.

Yeah BlamoNet will eventually upgrade to the social networking version of VBulletin (we don't really have an option not to). Currently this version of vBulletin is in beta, so it won't be here probably I'm guessing 3-6 months until it's a standard release and has been out for a while, I like to not be on the cutting edge of technology, as it sometimes makes your server bleed too much. :)
As for the Blogs those are a separate feature from vBulletin that costs $50 (and I think it has a reoccurring annual fee), those are production ready and we could go to those anytime after I buy the license for it. If people think they'd use it, I have no problem purchasing it, I can pay it out of the donation fund we have.

You could also charge a premium on unlocking extra blog features, sort of like Live Journal.
How much will a license for the new SUPERVBB cost?
Is it still around $200?

I can well expect that I would not use the blog as I don't use it on either Myspace or Facebook anymore.

Well it depends on the type of licensing you have. We have an old owner license from like 2000, so we just pay $30/yr for updates to the code. Last time I checked the owner license is $160/one time or the lease license is $85/year.

I would use it, mostly to just copy and paste stuff from my blog (http://rapbft.blogspot.com/) on blogspot.

Kris, your blog is way heavy. You should put pictures of kittens wearing tiara's or newborn puppies wearing tiny bikinis to lighten it up some. Just a suggestion. :bear: :)

any other options on this? I'm still learning towards it... let me know what you think?
I'd like to start using blogs also to start phasing out the blamo front page news. I'd also like to put CD reviews, video reviews, games etc on the on there.

I would probably use it a few times then forget it exists, it seems more of a gimmick - It'd be nice to have, but I don't think anyone will lose any sleep over missing out on having it.
