Oh, I agree very much. Didn't we trade some boots awhile back? If I remember correctly, I gave you a few Volta boots, and in return you sent me 1 floyd, and 1 Radiohead boot. :D

I've found leaks/possible demos of:
Aberinkula (5:45)
Ileyna (4:16)
Wax Simulacra (2:38)
Goliath (8:17)
Askepios (5:27)

Also there's this weird puzzle game you can play on TMV's website (http://www.themarsvolta.com/). When you solve the puzzle you get an mp3 of "Back Up Against the Wall." It's not included in the Bedlam in Goliath track listing, so it must be a B-side. It's a good tune, but it's only 1:33. I was a little bummed about the length, b/c the puzzle took me like 25 minutes to solve!

Do you have any leaks that I'm missing? Is there anything you'd like me to upload?

I like you SoonIWillDisappear so forgive me when i say will you ever fuck off you're only an auld bollock?

I do not find the prospect of a new mars volta record at all exciting. I loved their first album and everything else has had me yawming. I searched around for mp3's and they sound reasonable compared to their last album.

I like you SoonIWillDisappear

interesting. why? we've never spoken before. what could you possibly like about me?

will you ever fuck off?

I don't plan on fucking off. so, no. at least not in the near future.

I loved their first album and everything else has had me yawming.

I understand why you feel this way. De-Loused in the Comatorium is a fucking masterpiece. They'll never top that.

It's a Circle Jerks cover, dude.

For the record, I prefer Frances the Mute to Deloused, but I can't get into Amputechture no matter how hard I try.

Is there something I'm missing or is it really as boring as I think it is?

Excited for the new album regardless.

Lol, thanks. That makes sense. I guess I can't complain about it's length, huh? Is this the first cover TMV has ever released? Also, since you are familiar with the original version, do you think the cover is well done?

I can't get into Amputechture no matter how hard I try.

same boat. I mean, there are elements of it that I enjoi, like the way it just stops at the end, but the album as a whole is just ok.

I can understand why they covered it - it fits the punkier side of their style. Their version is pretty much identical to the original. The only major differences are the weird warbling keyboard sounds in the background and Cedric's high pitched whining.

Yeah, I was confused there for a sec. But no worries :D

I actually enjoyed Amputechture quite a lot, although I couldn't get into it the first couple of listens. I know everyone likes De-Loused In The Comatorium the best, but I'm glad that they've drifted away from their "punky" aggressive sound.

The single version of "Wax Simulacra" is actually a radio edit right? It sounds incomplete. Particularly the "freak-out" section at the end of the song. It sounds like they've embraced improvisation and elements of free jazz evmore than before. And the drums are amazing.

Can't wait for the new record!

is a game you can play on themarsvolta.com (http://www.themarsvolta.com/)

"Omar Rodriguez Lopez (guitar, producer) was in a curio shop in Jerusalem when he found the Soothsayer, an archaic Ouija-style “talking board.” Had he known at that moment that the board’s history stretched far beyond its novelty appearance, that its very fibers were soaked through with something terribly other, that the choral death and desire of a multi-headed Goliath was waiting behind its gates…well, he might have left it at rest there on the dusty shelves." -TMV.com

It's a very strange game. Interesting way to advertise and tell the story of The Bedlam in Goliath. Check it out if you're interested. :)

Haven't played the game, but I'm still excited for the record. If I'm lucky I'll be able to get my hands on it tomorrow (I'm sure it's already leaked by now).

I guess "Wax Simulacra" wasn't a radio edit after all. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying it a lot, and it's been getting a lot of plays on my iPod lately. After getting used to Thomas Pridgen's drumming, Jon Theodore sounds incredibly tame.

Anyone listen to Omar's solo releases from the last six months or so? I haven't been really following them, but it'll be interesting to see how they reflect upon The Bedlam In Goliath.

Amputechture just feels bloated. Like there's way too much stuff going on. Which is crazy because I like Frances The Mute and the crazy half-hour song. But I'm def. pumped up for this record.

(I'm sure it's already leaked by now).

it has. i have it. i listened to most of it on saturday, but i was kinda blacked out drunk, so uh, i'll let everyone know how i feel about it after i hear it again.

Anyone listen to Omar's solo releases from the last six months or so?

i have all of them. they're fucking great. check out the EP he did w/ Lydia Lunch. It's a step in a very interesting and new direction. Omar said he has plans to collaborate w/ her again.

I had tickets to see TMV on saturday (2 days ago) in Columbus. The day of the show a message was posted on the news section of TMV's site saying the show had been postponed due to illness. I hope omar or cedric didn't OD.

Well?

hold yer horses mayne.

ok i just listened. At the moment i'm feeling like this :\. I donno. I need to let it soak in more. I like it better than Amputechture, but De Loused and Francis the Mute reign high above it for me. i can say that the ending is solid. i still need to get used to this drummer. I'll try to provide more input after a few more listens.

ok i just listened. At the moment i'm feeling like this :\.

I listened to it once last night, and that was my initial reaction as well. But it wasn't unexpected. I don't expect to be completely floored by this band on the first listen anymore.

I had my speakers on pretty loud, so the first track scared the fuck out of me D:

Will come back after more listens.

Hmm, suppose its good that you like it more than Amputechture.
I always viewed that as a type of album that fits a certain mood, and if you're not in that mood it simply isn't accessible.
The sort of all or none album regarding listening to it.
Whereas, with the other 2 albums, they could be appreciated more track by track. Thats the way it is for me anyway.
Saying that, i did quite like Amputechture.
Its the soundtrack to the very hot summers day i spent walking around Milan, listening to it on discman just after buying it.:)

i guess it's a good thing that you're not required to buy any of their new records, eh?

personally...i find merit in all of their records. their musicianship is utterly impressive. i could give a fuck if they're commercially viable or if they make "accessible" music or whatever. As long as they keep playing their instruments with such a high level of proficiency then I'll be happy.

This shit goes straight for the jugular. I'm only a few songs in and it's already better than Amputechture.

I'm with Brad. Bedlam is much more intense than Amputechture. No bullshit 9 minutes of ambience on the first track, etc. I like it.

Holy shit "Goliath" just knocked me on my back. I thought nothing could top Jon Theodore's drumming, but this new kid (Thomas Pridgen?) is awesome.

I know!! He's a perfect fit. :yes::yes:

Ok, this album finally captured me. I was driving this morning, feeling a bit hung over/dazed out of it (in a good way) when it took advantage of my consciousness.
I'm actually glad that they postponed their show in Columbus. That granted my brain the chance to absorb this albums beauty. I'm so anxious to find out the rescheduled date. Seeing these people is going to blow my mind.

Goliath is definitely my favorite track. What's funny is that Omar uses the same riff on one of the songs on No Dice Bisonte

Not really, because it's supposed to a reworking of one of his solo compositions from that album.
