maybe but they have the bongload editions. i mean it is different and if you're going to spend 200 dollars on a record widely available on cd then the difference probably does mean something to you.
(i don't have it on vinyl by the way.) (i may buy this reissue)

I had to trade some really valuable records for Figure 8 and Roman Candle, but hey! I can get XO now.
The early presses are worth more. Not that it matters, cause I wont be selling them, but as a collector, having the early pressings is a plus.

i'm not really a collector so i don't care about having an early pressing or whatever. i really just like to own my favorite records on lp because the art work is bigger and i can display them and there's just something warm and fuzzy about hearing elliott on vinyl.

My sentiments exactly. I wanted to pay the big bucks to have them on vinyl before. But not for collection purposes. I wanted to listen to them! But now I can do that for much cheaper!
Awesome.

why isn't the label interscope?
best xmas present ever.
okay roman candle would be an even better present, but this works too.
yaayyyy!!!!!!!!!
except boo to it charging more for shipping than for both albums!
how can it be 37$ to ship this across the boarder but if had an address in buffalo, 30 mins away, it would only cost me 6$ ughghghghh! i hate international shipping with a passion.

I'm not targeting you here at all, but that's the problem with the typical horrible mastering job on recent records. We begin to get an attitude of "It's not a big deal, most new records have had their dynamic range neutered and clip like crazy".
The mastering on Figure 8 just sucks. It's not a Korn record, Figure 8 needs the dynamics and suffers because the dynamics have been squashed thanks to the way record companies work.

This is SO lame. Elliott's father, who is pretty much is in charge of what happens to Elliotts music, said before that the Bongload stuff wouldn't be touched. WTFT? So now their gonna inflate the hell out of the elliott smith rare vinyl market to make cheap clones of the sweet originals. On the figure 8 original for example, the vinyl is HEAVY. Its so lovely. Like original blue note jazz records from the 1950's. If anyone knows about those. A very special way of hearing the music. The reissue is going to be thinly pressed, budgeted garbage. This is such a disappointment. If they do make it, I hope its a piece of crap. Worth every $18.99 that you cheapskates are barely able to pay for it. Stick to your pirated MP3 files losers.

There's lots of cool stuff on that website. Re-issues of old Prestige jazz records pressed on 45rpm LPs?!?!?!?!? :spit:

You know, of all the things I thought I might conceivably be insulted for on this board (bad taste, idiocy, being a twat, I dunno), I never thought it would be for being too poor to afford to spend several hundred dollars on a single LP.

I just cant afford a decent turntable and phono stage. I know if I get one, it'll at least have to be a cheap Music Hall or a mid level Technics. I never understood the need to play vinyls just so you can play vinyls. Most cheap TTs cant come close to a well desiged cheap vintage cd player anyways. :P

a 80 dollar pickup beats a 80 dollar cd player, as long as your vinyl isnt damaged of course! if you wanna get a good pickup and dont want too spent too much on it, i recommend you get a 2nd hand one, and check if the element and needle on it are good. that way you can get a good pickup for about 10 buckeroonies!

My father has a Technics table from the 80s he doesn't use any more, so I just stole that from him, and started gobbling up vinyl when I saw it in the store. I want a nicer turntable, but this will do until then!

buying the oldies on vinyl is really cheap. its fun to have the originals (instead of a mp3), specially if it only cost you as much of a dollar for something as good as talk talk for example?
the big textsheets over the tiny cd booklets are great. and of course the full size artwork.
its really fun to play vinyls when you have friends over, much cosier!

i agree with every point you just made.
my boss gave me this RCA Home Theater System with 5 speakers and a subwoofer, and it came with a 5cd changer and a turntable, so vinyls sound AMAZING in my room.
i also have my grandmothers old vinyl player, from the 50's or 60's, with the 2 speakers on the sides that fold out, its a magnavox i think, and its also incredible, but since i got the system from my boss i put the old one away, maybe save it for my youngsters, when vinyl becomes absolutely ancient

I have a good reason I like vinyl. I read it in a magazine. It's actually a quote, but I don't recall exactly what the quote was, so I'll give you the gist of it.
The person being interviewed drew an analogy to paintings.
The original painting is hanging in a museum, where only a select few can see it. But you can go buy the prints in the gift shop, or buy a postcard with the image on it. OR you could have the image on your computer
The same goes for music. The original tapes are in archives, or studios, where w very select amount of people (usually producers or whatever) have access to them. But you can go buy the vinyl (which in my opinion is the closest thing to a PHYSICAL recording), the CD (postcard!) or download the mp3 (digital image of the painting!)
I dont know... I thought that analogy was cool.

ehh, the warmth of vinyl is so overrated. I personally like vinyl for the higher resolution and deeper bass that it gives over redbook cds. and personally, I think vinyl is usually better then cd because they master it better :)

Actually, it's not just his dad, it's his whole family. And also, the Dreamworks (now Interscope) stuff works differently than the KRS and other indie stuff. There's simply more red tape to work around because of their corporate nature and how many times the label has changed hands.
And what's this got to do with the Bongload albums? All this does is make them more valuable as first pressings. (And by the way, before they went out of print, they cost about this much too, sillypants. Or is it somehow more honorable to pay price-gouged rates on eBay?)
Also, in terms of achieving total HEAVY-ocity, these are doin' it to ya in your earhole with 180 grams, fella. Put that in your Bongload and smoke it.
Can't wait for your third post.

Because it's a needle, being dragged over a bunch of grooves, and generating sound, not some laser reading a piece of plastic. I don't really know how to explain it. When I listen to vinyl, it's a more personal experience for me.

My dad used to play his records in the house. They all sounded like bacon cooking, so I guess I never really got the whole "superior sound" thing...
But I also never got why people my age thought they were "cool" when they listened to the same music as my dad, so...

Well... it isn't really cool or uncool. Everybody has their own taste. But when I was in high school, there were these kids who thought they were like... "unique" because they listened to music from the 60s and 70s. Personal taste is one thing, flaunting it like it makes you special (or better than others) is another. I always kind of laughed it off to myself because my dad is like the last person I'd think of as being cool for his taste in music...
And uh... seriously? I'm the only one familiar with the sound of a very old, worn out record? You know, when they skip? :ok: Those are the worst.
Obviously I understand that a new record on a good system isn't going to sound that awful, but... because I heard so much of that growing up, I associate vinyl with that kind of sound.

With my dad, i learned my cool from the likes of Lionel Richie, Neil Diamond, Anne Murray, Alabama and Cher. Now, I do what i can to help, but its a long road to recovery...for both of us.

Well... it isn't really cool or uncool. Everybody has their own taste. But when I was in high school, there were these kids who thought they were like... Because it's a needle, being dragged over a bunch of grooves, and generating sound, not some laser reading a piece of plastic. I don't really know how to explain it. When I listen to vinyl, it's a more personal experience for me.
ok i think i see what youre saying. analog over digital!!! I totally understand! I'm the same way sometimes with some recordings. BTW, you probably dont know this, but if you want the sound of vinyl in digital format, theres something called a needledrop which is basically recording the sound of vinyl off of a turntable and recording into a computer (usually in .flac). It sounds pretty close to the real thing if the person whos recording has decent gear. I get my friend to do this for me all the time with new LPs that he gets

I wouldn't mind getting the recipe (?) for that record cleaning solution if you have it / or anyone else's supermagic record cleaning tips. Also - once an old record develops a skip, is there any way to reverse it? I have a Duke Ellington / Count Basie LP that skips in ONE place. Bugs the hell out of me...

I made an account to show my disapproval for the reissues and my disgust for people who didn't notice that a rare vinyl market was getting shat all over. I've seen people spend a lot of money on these records over the years and have admired their fondness for Elliott's ORIGINAL vinyl records. Like myself, when it came to the music, they had to have nothing but the utmost quality. The original. Not a replica. Not the squire for a strat. Not the epiphone for the the gibson. A lot of my records are reissues and yet I STILL manage to sleep at night. How does THAT work?!?
I guess those with the ORIGINALS can take comfort in the fact that they are superior beings to us. Meanwhile, us scumbags who are going to buy the reissues must bow our heads in shame every day for the rest of our sorry little 2nd pressing lives.
the reason why you are so happy and well adjusted is that you either
1. have a penis
2. are satisfied with the size of your penis
3. are 100% holy spirit

I did want to keep the vinyl. I seriously never wanted to sell it. It was one of my favorite records. But I also didn't want to lose bunch of money on my investment. The younger elliott vinyl lovers don't care if its original or not for some reason, unlike the older collectors who pay top dollar for originals. I love elliot smith. I even spell his name right. It has one ( t) and people usually use two ( tt ). What a bunch or retards. I remember someone mentioning the built to spill originals going down from $50-60 and after the limited edition reissues to like $20. This was very true as I followed closely the auctions. The elliott vinyl market is pretty similar to the built to spill vinyl market so i didn't want to lose a bunch of money. Everyone would do the same thing. SELL THEIR FUCKING RECORDS! By the way, Elliott was talking about shitty bands, not rare vinyl collectors. All you elliott music is pirated and you know it.

so why complain that a lot more people now have the chance to experience elliott on vinyl (even if it is not as perfect as the original. which i dunno, vinyl dudes clear that one up?)
From my experience it makes no difference whether vinyl is old or new. It depends on how well they are kept, how well they are pressed in the first place, how decent your record players is, how decent your amp is…
I've got albums pressed onto 180gram vinyl and some of them sound worse than their thinner counterparts. Part of vinyl's charm is the odd crackle and imperfection, unlike the clinical nature of the CD.
I'm sure I can speak for a lot of people here by saying that I can't wait to finally own 'Figure 8' and 'xo' on vinyl, even if it's a reissue and not the sacred Bongload 1st pressings. We're Elliott fans, we can't afford to pay $100+ for a record (unless Elliott signed it of course) so why are there some people who consider these reissues to be morally on par with the holocaust?

Oh for fuck's sake, are you serious? Is this a joke and we're all missing it?
Here's the deal: The first pressings, which you had until your dumbass sold it, are still worth money and other collectors will recognize this. It will be worth more than the newer pressing and any other newer pressings that may come along. If you knew anything about being a collector, you'd know this, because that's how it works. Meanwhile, these kids get to finally have these albums on vinyl. Care is being taken so the quality is excellent and is just as good as any other vinyl edition.
You win, everybody else wins. But you, up on your pulpit about owning stuff and money, SOLD your copy. So I guess you'll just have to settle for a "replica" which is of the same sound quality as the original. Boo fucking hoo.
At that: What the fuck are you going on about "replicas" for? Your vinyl copies are a replica. Replica = copy. And again, care is being taken so that the quality is just as good as any other edition. So unless you're sitting there listening to the master tapes for Figure 8, then I don't want to hear your bullshit about replicas.
You seem to have this childish "MINE MINE MINE" attitude towards this stuff and in the end you're just looking like a total jackass. You keep digging the hole deeper with each new post, repeatedly showing that you don't know what in the hell you're talking about. The best part is, you really didn't have any excuse to be pissed until you sold your copy because you assumed it was about to go way down in value. And now who's to blame?

I wouldn't call facepaint87 a 'collector' as that would imply that he/she (most likely he) actually cares and cherishes their 'collection'. They definitely would NOT sell it, that's for sure.
No, facepaint is merely an investor and is pissed off because they have lost out on a pointless little profit.
So, hurrah for the reissues, so us Elliott fans and 'collectors' of his wonderful art can now own these wonderful records.

Do yourself a favor and watch ebay auctions for the figure 8 and xo bongload originals from now untill the reissue are being sold. I can guarantee you that you will see bongloads go from $150-$250 to around $50-$100(probably less). If you see one go for over $150 today, well then that person who bought it obviously doesn't know about the reissues. These aren't like Beatles albums were the originals go for 25x what the originals sell for. It's a completely different market consisting of much younger collectors who really don't care if they have the originals or not. They don't have the money to be picky. (And YES, I am 20 years old, but I DO have the money to be picky so I don't consider myself part of the market we are discussing to address another post.) It's a completely different market. If you knew anything about buying or selling (or basic economics) you would know that. If I ever need a lesson on taking acid and fucking and a phish concert maybe I could ask for a lesson from you, otherwise just keep your vinyl collecting lessons to yourself. Look at the Built to Spill originals then reissue that followed and you'd have the same fucking story. I enjoy listening elliott's music. But probably not nearly as much as you guys do tho. I prefer artist who aren't fucking junkies, who rely on their dope to help them write their songs. -Love Ben

Wow, what a hateful, spiteful, brat of a motherfucker. Alright, so you claim to like his music, and then later in the same sentence you call him a fucking junkie...Wow. What a truly honest and genuine person you are. You're the type of guy who, if you met Elliott, you'd be kissing his ass and asking for autographs. You're the worst kind of person there is, because you base your opinions on anger and self gratification. And then, when someone rightfully calls you out on it, you assume they take acid, have sex (which, last I checked, isn't a bad thing), and that they listen to Phish. Well, all I've seen you prove yourself to be on here is an asshole, and a moneyhungry asshole at that. You sir, are a whore. And I say this not in the way you say it, out of spite and some childish comeback, but in mere truth of the behavior you have displayed. And for that matter, where's your fucking music man? Where's your records? How can you judge someone, whether they use drugs to write or not? You have absolutely no knowledge of the topic. Stop talking out of turn and just keep your opinions in your head or something. By that rational, you're saying you have a problem with The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Ray Charles, and pretty much every other musician who used to drugs while writing music, simply because they did? You are making statements that you can't take back my friend. I suggest you think about the things you say before you do, because you're losing ground, and fast.
And what makes it even more fucking ironic and pathetic, is that you're preaching about making money off a record in which alot of the songs are about the downfalls of money and fame and the like. You're the biggest fake I've ever seen.
I say you take all your money, and buy yourself a clue. You see, I can wake up tomorrow and forget all about this situation. But you, you're always going to be an asshole.
Love Zach.

You can get a brand-new portable turntable for $100. Also, I just saw an ad at the top of a sweetaddy page for a USB turntable for $150. They may not be the best quality players, but it is a pretty reasonable price for a 1st turntable... Take the plunge!!!

This is true. I was recently looking at some turntables, and an anti-skate, weight-adjustable tonearm is not available on some of the cheaper turntables. I would consider this feature a necessity on a good, home-stereo turntable.

-Love Ben
The fact that facepaint typed such a bitter post on Christmas day says a lot about him than it does about anyone else. Sad.

I bought the XO reissue and was thoroughly delighted. It did sound "warm" like everyone always says vinyl does (this is my first vinyl purchase).
To either.or - perhaps you were dancing, and that's why it was skipping? Maybe it's just your turntable.

If we could get a FLAC vinyl rip I would be so happy.
I don't have the equipment to do it myself.
