I don't think it has been posted before, it's for people who live in LA

11/27 @ 8pm
Wholphin #5 DVD Release
Wholphin is a quarterly DVD magazine of rare and unseen short films distributed by McSweeney's. Past issues have included Spike Jonze's lost Al Gore doc from the 2000 election, a student film by Alexander Payne, an excerpt from Errol Morris' aborted Movie Movie project, Dennis Hopper's explosive 1983 performance art piece, a made-for-Wholphin short by Steven Soderbergh, Adam Curtis' terrifying documentary, The Power of Nightmares, and more.

For the release of their upcoming fifth issue, they are having their first ever LA screening which will likely involve short films about- and live entertainment from- drunk bees, bioluminescent squirt guns, a crying competition, Satanic nine-year-olds, super-slo-motion tongues, and if we're lucky, a never-before-seen short film by Paul Thomas Anderson starring Elliot Smith as a Rastafarian basketball player with a cameo by Bette Midler. Beats SARS.
Tickets - $6
611 N Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles, 90036 / 323-655-2510

So I don't know what "if you're lucky" means, it is for sure or not? :darn:
I have also found this:

"i’ve just been informed by wholphin magazine that due to paul thomas anderson’s promo duties for ‘there will be blood’, the long lost elliott smith short directed by paul won’t show up until their sixth issue, being released in mid 2008.

if you still need an elliott smith fix, pick up autumn de wilde’s new book ‘elliott smith’, full of pictures and new interviews with lots of awesome people. the book also includes some recordings from elliott’s live performances at largo."

Oh wow! I heard about this a long time ago. He shot that footage ages ago, I never thought it'd see the light of day.

And on a separate note: There Will Be Blood looks like it could be the most brutal (and I mean that in a good way) thing ever.

I was going to offer to sort through p.t. anderson's storage units myself if that film didn't turn up.

PT did shoot footage of Elliott, but I think the whole Jah Basketball thing was a joke, given the additional details included in that invite.

I know! I hope I will be able to attend this free screening next week! There will be a Q&A with Anderson and Day-Lewis after the screening! :D Probably a lot of people will want to get in.

:O

So I went to the screening.... it was awesome! I really like the movie, it's dark, epic, violent, ... certain people have compared it to Citizen Kane :O, and I can see why! Daniel day Lewis is an extraordinary actor, and Paul Dano is really good too.
The Q&A with Anderson and Lewis was really a good one, the moderator was Judd Apatow! and he was really funny of course
Anderson seems really a nice guy, he even signed my Magnolia cd case :O and was very friendly with his fans. There were many actors in the room (from Magnolia, and from Superbad!)

Oh and Jonny Greenwood (a.k.a. Radiohead's guitarist) has scored the music of the movie!

About 5 minutes before opening this thread, I noticed that an old Wholphin (#1) had mysteriously made its way onto my computer desk :therock:
