View Full Version : guys!
i was listening to zeitgeist yesterday, and i think i've finally started to like bring the light! it's been a long time coming, but i think it's finally in my good list. come on let's go, on the the other hand...well, maybe i'll come around.
oh also, i played guitar hero 3 last night, and i played cherub rock. it was pretty easy (then again, i had it on medium...i've only played it like twice), but lots of fun. my friends all got mad because i picked it. one of my friends came in from having a smoke and was like "ugh...let me guess, justin picked this?" oh well.

man, what is it with that? Anytime I am with people and play a Pumpkins song or mention them at all everyone just kind of sighs in a "yeah I just lost respect for you for being a fan of theirs" kind of way. Then again I guess most of those people only know of the band for their hit single "Rat in a Cage"

Most of the people I know prefer "The Killer In Me Is The Killer In You."
I am buying GH3 soon. I can't wait to play Cherub Rock. We need some SP fan programmers to make an all-SP Guitar Hero :D

Yeah I get that from people too. It gets to point where I purposely dont mention SP stuff in front of people anymore. bleh
An all Sp Gutair Hero would rock! I'm sure it could be done..

While talking with someone a great many years ago, he said that all the Pumpkins' songs sounded alike...I just ignored that person from that moment on...

About time! Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one here that likes Bring the Light...

I'm the only pumpkins fan amongst my friends. I have a couple of mates who take a passing interest (have a couple of albums etc), but none of them are as geeky...

bring the light's pretty good. i like it, but it can get a bit repetitive sometimes.
i do fucking LOVE (Come On) Let's Go! that's been one of my favorites since the album came out. i think it's the line "tears were once my only way back home" that gets me. something about how bolly sings it. and i think it's a really rockin' riff.
Come On (Let's Go!) is the only song I didn't like on the album originally. I couldn't get past the cheezeball lyrics and the peppering of butterfly-in-the-wind-type lead guitar fills. I finally stopped listening to it so critically, and now appreciate it as it is. A tongue and cheek, bubble gum rock tune. It's along the same lines as Slunk. Just a goofy hard rockin song with a great riff. I rather enjoy how they seem like such a serious and intense band, yet can put out some really goofy-assed shit.
C'mon, honestly, "you can be my friend, lovely and differeeeent", overtop of that killer riff...that shit makes me chuckle just thinking about it.
Eee, funny, Come On and Bring the Light are the only two Zeitgeist songs I properly get urges to listen to. I do need to give all the bonus songs a proper listen though.

There are more. I like it the most of all Zeitgeist songs performed live (just not the album version)

C'mon let's go I don't buy, the part "assimilate...it's all been staged" is a replica of White Spyder's "I'm gonna swim to Sweden and fuck the enemy" part. That's the main reason I don't like it...also Neverlost...that one is Soot and stars (and a mixture of some other Judas O songs). And I prefer the first incarnation always - White spyder over C'mon and Soot over Neverlost.
Those are both killer songs for sure, but I rather enjoy Neverlost. It has a great progression, and the solo is deliciously tasteful.

no, you're definitely not. there have always been some. it's just the constant "bring the light"s that get me. i think it would be more effective if he didn't sing it QUITE so much.

i TOTALLY relate! most of my friends that even have a "passing interest" have as much because of me though. one of my friends even said something like "but then again you like the smashing pumpkins...and they don't do love songs" to me. i gave him a blank stare and hung my head in shame

duuuude, that is hard. i'm really glad i had it on medium now. even that was kinda challenging

yeah, i like that line. and like the feel of the song/the music. the lyrics (in general obviously) really bug me. like with bring the light, i think it would be better if he didn't sing the title quite so much. but that's just me.
I finally stopped listening to it so critically, and now appreciate it as it is. A tongue and cheek, bubble gum rock tune.
maybe i can bring myself to do this...for now, i can't really. it's kinda sad because i want to like it, i just don't.

hmmm...i actually don't hear this. at all. also, i prefer neverlost to soot anyway. i like soot, but neverlost is really freaking good. it's my favorite song off of zeitgeist. but to each his own and all that good stuff.

1) fuck you, i have a music degree! ;) <-----just to be sure, the winking means i kid, i kid.
2)seriously though. soot and stars is a piano based song with spacey echo effect on his voice where he waxes philosophic (i actually do like the song...even though it sounds like i don't). neverlost has vibes, guitar, drums, etc. as well as having VERY different lyrics (they don't feel like he's rambling...which is what i like most about soot), the musical arch is completely different. there's even distorted guitars in neverlost. then again, i haven't listened to soot in about two years...i'm not sure i even have it anymore since my computer crashed. so, if you're referring to the main riffs being similar...it's possible. i can't think of how the piano part exactly goes. i just know it's pretty and a little unnerving. anyway, yeah.

The verse is somewhat similiar, but that's about it as far simliarities go.

Bring the Light and Come On Let's Go! are the only songs I like aside from Stellar, Ma Belle, and Neverlost.
I am indebted for them to introducing me to Explosions in the Sky :D

That's funny, Except for Stellar those sound the least Pumpkins to me, of Zeitgeist. (And i don't mean old Pumpkins i just mean Pumpkins Pumpkins.)
