I've finally gotten around to figuring out just how to make pasta at home. I invested in a hand crank pasta roller ($30) and found a good recipe for the dough (1 egg to 1 cup of flour + olive oil as needed). Tonight I made raviolis filled with goat cheese, roasted red pepper and hard salami. I'm making a light tomato sauce for them to go in right now, pictures to come later...
Does anyone else up in this place make their own pasta?

No, but I've always wanted to make my own ravioli with cheese and red pepper to have with alfredo sauce. I had something similar (alfredo with red pepper) at a great place in Little Italy and I'm constantly craving it.

Nope, but I'm going to start baking my own bread, I think.

We bought a hand crank machine about 3 weeks ago. Turns out it was pretty damn good. I want more!
Our machine had an add on thing to do ravioli. It is circular and was a big mess that didn't work well. We were also tired, hurried, and probably didn't follow directions well.

I hand-made my raviolis and they turned out pretty well, though some of them had a tendency to break apart while cooking, but not too badly. I guess I just need to secure them a bit better.

The commercial with the two neighbors gives me such a heavy heart.

that stuff ain't nearly as tasty. and the texture of homemade pasta is much more to my liking. Plus it's a hell of a lot cheaper.

Have you tried the wheat pasta? It's not quite as disgusting as you might think!

isn't pasta already pretty darn cheap as foods go?
the pic looks well... hmm the pasta looks kinda really soggy and the sauce kinda runny. maybe it's just the photo tho. it's hard to get good pics of food.
my parents have one of those crank things and we used to use it when it were kids on weekends to make pasta. it was fun but ultimately not worth the time/energy to keep doing it.

For the price of one box of pasta, I can buy enough eggs and flour to make the equivalent of 5 boxes of pasta...
