I was at the hospital the other day (i had pink eye) and a guy told me that the easiest way to get seen right away, no questions asked, was to tell them you were experiencing chest pains. Apparently they don't fuck around with that stuff....

I really, really, really hope Jimmy is okay. I'm hoping this is just more serious than it sounds. Even if they have to stop doing SP, i just hope he's okay. Fuck the Pumpkins, his life is more important.

Pumpkins canceled the two Atlanta shows (Oct. 30 and 31) because Jimmy is apparently in the hospital with chest pains.

david bowie had pain in his shoulder and kept touring and then he had to be rushed to the hospital for a bypass. a couple of days before i was going to see him.

will you be ok, rose?

If Jimmy is okay, i'll be fine. This really kind of took the wind out of my sails.

As far as my pink eye is concerned, it's gone (FINALLY). I was worried it was going to stay that way forever and i was going to go blind, but i'm not. Thanks for asking.

about the pink eye: is this a red eye (where it's supposed to be white) or an infected eyelid?

I hope so too. It seemed like Jimmy had really put his life back together over the past 7 years or so, I hope this is just some overzealous guy looking for 'dirt' and just assuming this to be true.

Might as well skip past this post because this is more for myself and jimmydrevpile.

I looked up to him when I was 16, especially when he first cleaned up. Glad to see him trying to get his life back in order.

I don't have any official sources, but my friend who directed me to that article in the first place said that apparently Jimmy's clean, and some guy at the venue apparently said that they called him into the hospital when we wouldn't wake up. I am not sure what source they have, perhaps people they know or other message boards, not really sure. But they speculated that Jimmy was probably stressed out as a result of Billy the past few days. My friend had went to some of the Philadelphia shows, and Billy was almost falling off the stage at one of the shows, forgetting words to 1979, and he told people that the show the next night would be better. Can anyone confirm this? Sounds like Billy might have been drunk if that was the case.

Maybe the're exhausted, maybe the schedule and playing 3 hours a night is too much for 70+ shows, sort of in a row.

although there's been no official announcement yet - most/all of the shows seem to have been or are being rescheduled. So at least Jimmy is ok, yay! :)

Jimmy we hope that you feel better :)You're the heartbeat to SP after all.
What's this Bullshit about drugs and alcohol? Give us a break guys. I don't care who the hell you are the human body can only take so much, before you land on your ass. These guys have been playing real hard. I saw them both in Asheville and Philly, they rocked. Yes, everyone seemed slightly more mellow/tired in Philly but they put on one heck of a show. As for the other nonsense group. There has to be something better going on in your lives than to sit around gossiping like a bunch of old hags.
Don't you remember how excited you were when you heard that SP was getting back together, and putting out a new album?
I hope that Jimmy feels better soon. There isn't a better drummer out there:) I'd like to imagine that SP will slow down a little and enjoy the ride for along time to come.

"THE SMASHING PUMPKINS have announced the rescheduling of five shows after drummer JIMMY CHAMBERLIN was admitted to a hospital after experiencing some chest discomfort.

Chamberlin was taken to an Atlanta hospital Tuesday (10/30) and was given an angiogram which revealed a partially blocked artery. He rested at the hospital overnight and was released Wednesday (10/31).

Says Chamberlin: "The good news is that my heart checked out. No damage. Basically a small build up of plaque on one of my arteries. This combined with stress, fatigue and all of the other good things that go along with being on tour was the cause of my pain. So obviously we had to postpone the end of the tour while I recover. It should only be a week or so until JC is ready to rock again." See below for all of Jimmy's thoughts that he expressed to fans at www.smashingpumpkins.com."

well the current tour was originally slated to end on nov. 9th in sc i think, so they were near the end of it. now they postposed 5 of their last 8 tours which they rescheduled through nov 18 (last show in dallas).

they'll probably take a few weeks off and then be up to their typical mischievousness -- maybe some more residencies? probably too soon for them to go back to recording unless they start working on one song per week and releasing it like they had talked about a while ago. or maybe they'll hit up some new continents they haven't visited in a while? i'm kinda glad they're taking a break here because it means i can take a break. trying to be a pumpkins groupie while in med school has proven quite a challenge...

so the atlanta dates on the 30th and 31st are rescheduled for nov. 15th and 16th. i'm guessing 30th=15th and 31st=16th, right? nov. 16th is really good for me. it's a friday, and it's the friday before thanksgiving break, so i'm free as a bird! i hope explosions will still be opening. i don't think they'll be in europe yet.

It's a little of both, actually. I actually thought only white people get it, but i guess it somehow realized that i am part white, so....

Basically your eye becomes really irritated, there's discharge (i didn't have any though, thankfully), your eyelids swell, and your cornea (the outer layer of your eye) swells. Your eyeball becomes really veiny too. It sucks. Don't ever get it.

I am glad that moron who claimed Jimmy had overdosed was wrong. The fact that guy's blog is called JJ's Dirt was a red flag right away.

I imagine that they will take a few weeks off too. I am glad Jimmy will be ok.

As for a Chicago residency, a friend had sent me a link to some thread on Netphoria that there was a rumor of either a residency around American Thanksgiving or around New Years. But that back in August, and we haven't heard anything. I hope there is a new years residency though. I am going back to Winnipeg for three weeks in December, and won't be back in Chicago until December 29th but school doesn't start back up for me for until close to mid-January I think ,so anytime between those dates would be perfect for me ;).

No. I think he is allergic to alcohol. Probably just exhausted. It can't be fun singing 1979 every night when you would rather be doing 20 minute space rock jams.

Anyway, its good to hear that Jimmy is on the road to recovery.

According to the Chicago SP fan myspace page, there has been a rumor circulating on XRT that SP will be playing Chicago at the Aragon between December 15 and 23. If that's true, I am going to go crazy.

I finally get to Chicago, the same year SP regroups, and they may do shows during a time when I am not even there!

Similar things have happened to me before. With Zwan, I had unchangeable airline tickets to go back to Winnipeg for December 17th, 2002, and then I find out that there was a Zwan show happening on December 18, 2002 in Toronto. Then in March 2003, I had a group presentation in a night class on that night Zwan returned to Toronto (again, pre-planned before they announced those tour dates).

Then in 2005, my brother had to end up taking a road trip to Philly see Billy solo a week before the Toronto show. Why? Well, my brother and I had planned out a vacation to go see a Cubs game when tickets went on sale in February of that year for a July 1 date. Then months later they announced the solo tour dates, and Billy ended up playing Toronto while we would be in Chicago on vacation, and ended up playing shows in Chicago after we had returned to Toronto.

I know people have had worst luck in terms of not being able to see SP period and things like that, but its pretty frustrating when you just miss seeing the band or related artists because of scheduling that is no longer under your control.
