Aside from any opinion about the quality of his new music (I kind of like it though not as much as Lifted-era stuff. But surely more than the "emo-folk" stuff of the late 90's)...his voice is getting cool! Am I the only one who likes it? It's getting deeper and smoother at once-:D Yes, Conor keep smoking and drinking! :-D

I prefer the old voice I think the shaky-ness and "inconsistency" is what defined him as one of the few who could pull off that style with such perfection. But eh, whatevs.

I was talking mostly about the timbre, not much the delivery or ability to sing. I like both styles of singing. Then again I think I prefer a compromise between the two, as in lots of emotions but not hurting my ears too much. But I was talking about the overall sound of his voice here, not how he sings per se.

I love old shaky, quavery Conor too, but I think the new voice is irresistible! You're right, it's deeper and smoother. And it's not even like slick, radio smooth at all. It's kind of husky-worn-down-country-singer smooth. Smoothy but still really textured and a little gritty. On a song like Clairaudients, for example, you can't say it's not tremendous. :)

yeah, not pop singer smooth. world-weary troubadour smooth. :-D
that's what I was talking about! I think he's going through a transition, in a way, with his voice and maybe his persona, but good things will come out of it I think. That's the main reason why the album is a bit patchy IMHO.
