Any of you fine chaps know of a free DVD to mpeg converter?

Someone told me they stopped making those because of copyright issues. You can still get them, but only on filesharing etc.? I haven't searched much, but I'll let you know if I come across something. Apparently they used to be very prevalent but no longer. From what I hear.

Man, I really should know cos I converted my Futurama DVDs to some format or other for playing on my mp3 player. I'm pretty sure I used DVD Decrypter for the first part of the process. But I don't remember what I did next...

That's what I'm wanting one for too. I've found a few programs that'll do it, but they all cost money. I guess if I haven't found a freebie in a couple of months I'll just bite the bullet. Will, if you have any installation files for what you used, that'd be awesome beyond words.

you can google "DVD Decrypter". this site looks okay

then once you have the raw DVD files, you need to convert to mpeg. i'm googling a bit...

I use handbrake for the mac. It's really good and easy to use.

It' also how I got films and tv shows on to my ipod for train journeys!

While we're on the subject, let's say you're ripping a DVD with subtitles -- any idea how to extract the subtitles from the Video_TS?
