Maybe they'll be released in new official packaging titled: "Elliott Smith: NowPeopleCan'tSayI'mLikeNickDrake" and music critics everywhere will have nothing to say in their lousy reviews.

I remember someone saying a noise track was a song where they don't play normal instruments. I remember someone saying some tin cans were played in coast to coast or something.
but yeah, esentially, more noise tracks would mean more Kings Crossings, Shooting Stars, etc.

No, definitely not Kings Crossing. MAYBE Shooting Star. These noise tracks have been described as having a "wall of noise" quality, akin to My Bloody Valentine. It's not about using weird instruments, it's about LAYERS. Layers and layers and layers of noise, and sound, and effects, and pianos, and guitars, and drums.

Mister Grieves knows his shit, listen to him people. A lot of misconceptions about what these sound like... not that I know.. but Under The Radar said something about them sounding like MBV, so everyone go check out Loveless and Isn't Anything.

08-06-2007, 04:18 PM
MBV sounds from elliott would be incredible...love that disguised melody thing they do. same with Jesus & Mary Chain...imagine elliott melodies hidden under noise and distortion...salivation starts here.

I think about it, could be amazing! I hear influence from them anyway... in like, Christian Brothers, very MBV.

My bad. thanks for clearing that up. Maybe I'm thinking of layers in teh wrong way, but would that mean Coast To Coast perhaps? I couldn't even hear the poem read under the song until i heard the instrumental. That kind of layering? Or crazy just NOISE.

yeah, to an extent. Coast to Coast has lots of layers of overdubbed guitar lines, and overdubbed drums (which is what makes this song so bombastic). I wish I knew how he recorded those powerful drums (it was Drozd(spelling?) who played them, right?).

Yeah, he Drozd played them on coast to coast. I think Aaron Sparkse or something like that played them on coast to coast too?

The Sellout

there is the arguement that the song evolved from My New Freedom/Doin' Okay, Pretty Good, so in that way, there is be a live version.
This also has yet to be confirmed and there is a fair amount of debate over it. I'm inclined to think that the verse bears more than a passing resemblance to SYIH, so there is probably some connection

revolution 9 was a seminal track for reasons beyond listenability. in a geeky studio kind of way, and the completion of the transition of live music into something completely irreproachable during the concretisation of the sound desk studio
more noise please.

Hrmmmmm. Saying it sounds like My Bloody Valentine is still pretty open ended, I think. I would theorize it sounds like some of the instrumental repeating-type Figure 8 between-song ditties and the psychedelia of See You in Heaven and other Basement pieces.

fer sure - I was listening to Loveless last night, and some of the songs on basement could certainly be classified as MBV sounding by some people.
My guess is the guy that heard them said MBV based on their complexety and rhythm more than anything else, since i cant imagine Coast to Coast shrouded in reverb. That being said, the songs that would apply would be:
Coast to Coast
A Passing Feeling
Shooting Star
Strung OUt Again
Don't Go Down
From a Poison Well
maybe Dancing on the Highway and King's Crossing
The guy reffering to Revolution Number 9 might just have heard stuff that sounded like the background to Coast to Coast; which ended up sounding pretty radio friendly in spite of the wierdness.
Just my two cents though
