When I try and access my router options at 192.168.1.1 it asks for username and password.
It never used to and I don't remember ever picking one. Is there a way to by pass this or what am I supposed to do?

try...
username admin
password admin
Is it a wireless router? Maybe a neighbor hacked it?

No, just use password admin. Thats usually it.

That didn't work either obstinate. I ended up calling belkin and a guy I could barely understand told me to call my internet provider. Does that make sense? Would my internet provider be able to help me?

google search the model number to find the factory default user/pass. if the signal was picked up by a neighbor and they decided to be dicks by establishing their own pass (unlikely, but does happen if you have savvy neighbors), you can just use the manual reset button on the router which restores all factory defaults. establish a MAC filter so only the machines in your house are able to receive an IP from the router and it doesn't happen again. I suggest googling that for instructions, no big deal.

thanks Tobias I will try that

Yeah, there should be a reset button behind it to press. Definitely set up a firewall and MAC Filter, or at least a username and password!

obstinate I did reset it, but it still comes up...still searching for default user/pass
andi will defitnately get more security with it once I fix it, im just not as smart as most of you
if i get a new router would that fix the problem?

Try no username and either 'MiniAP' or 'admin' as password. Got those from a list of default router passwords. Hopefully one of the two works.

Damn, when you did the hard reset, did you hold down the reset button for at least 30 secs? About all I can think of.

Is it possible that the Ip address im using isnt the right one? Maybe its not in the default IP address. Is there a way for me to check that?

Well dunno then, that sucks. I like my ole WRT54G v3 as I've bricked that bastard countless times messing with custom firmware and recovered.

Hit Windows Key + R, type "cmd" and hit Enter.
When the DOS box pops up type in "ipconfig" and what does it show your Default Gateway IP as.

defubar, thanks for all your help...i bought a new router to try it and it still didnt work, but then i find a site that taught me how to hack into my router settings, indeed somebody did hack into my shit, but i hacked back in and changed my password and put up a firewall so hopefully noone else will be able to to do that
