The transition from "7 Shades of Black" to "Bleeding the Orchid." The first few times I didn't realize a new song had started. Say what you will about the flow of the album on the whole, Billy got it right here. Echoes of Perfect/Daphne, though a bit less subtle.

i never mistook daphne for being a continuation of perfect, although it does have a decent transition. 7shades definitely fooled me the first 3 or 4 times. the fact that its in the same key is probably what got me

I wish I knew more music theory so I could realize these things. Sort of like how I didn't realize that the reason that "nickelbacksucks" song works is because both the songs are in the same key. Who knew!
I only listen to the intro the 7 shades, the ending to Starz(Killer cymbal action, old rock style) The rocking part after the eerie tones in US, and never lost's first verse, the rest i put on mute

But why are you so down on the rest of the album?

See, stupid me thought you were serious. And I was kinda like "Wow...sorry, man."
Heh.
Right now, my favorite part of Zeitgeist is easily the opening scene of Tarantula. I know that's such an easy one to pick, but I just really love how it starts up, how it comes off like saying "Hey, asshats, we're The Smashing Pumpkins and we've come back to steal the souls of your children!"
And so on.

I'm going to start calling the beginnings of songs "opening scenes" from now on. Much more intriguing to the reader/listener than a "riff" or "melody." Good call.

I'm sorry but I don't see the transition this way. Maybe it's my CD player, but when I listen it is clearly obvious that a new song has started. Especially since 7SOB ends with a heavy chord and BTO starts with a choir vocal, and there is space in between.
Hmmm....

Well, you're right, technically. It's definitely not supposed to be any sort of trick. To my ears, though, for the first few listens 7SoB sounded like it cut off right before what should be the final note, and then when BtO comes in it sounds like we've switched to some sort of bridge.

Agreed, I'm totally lost here. I'm not real big on transitions, I usually listen on shuffle or random.

Eh, never really fooled me because I listened to the tracks all out of order. For example, aside from Tarantula and Doomsday Clock, the first song I listened to was Pomp and Circumstances because of how it was described to me.
