I thought it took em a little while to get going and the sound seemed a little muddy to start out. Something clicked into place as soon as they went into Drown though (did my magic chocolate kick in here?), which put me on cloud 9 - first Pumpkins song I ever heard back when the Singles soundtrack was released in 92. This version was smashingly AMAZINg.... the rhythm section was so phat, Ginger started to really knock me out here, the band had such a phat groove going, the show really took off from there, the band rocking out a sustained level of excellence for the rest of the evening.

the studio versions of songs such as Doomsday, U.S., and That's the Way do not do justice to how amazingly kickass these tunes are live!!! I wasn't sold on Ginger when I was watching the Live Earth set on TV, but she was awesome last night. To keep up w/ Jimmy and make these songs kick as much ass as they did, she had it going on. Jimmy still rules...

I wasn't too familiar w/ the last 4 songs, but they all kicked ass. This band is awesome, and as someone who saw the Pumpkins at their peak (Warfield 93, Fillmore 94) I can say that the current band is as strong as ever...

The show was "only" about 2:20, but it was so strong. I don't know if they trimmed some of the fat from the 3 hour show or if those newspaper critics from the SF Chron, Oak Trib and SJ Merc are all just tools who can't appreciate great rock and roll when they see it. Probly the latter...

My only complaint w/ the band right now is the way they put out extra bonus tracks on the album if youbought at Target or Best Buy, discouraging peeps from supporting their local indie stores. This is just wrong, and I want to know if that was Billy's idea or the label's? What the band really needs to do is start making soundboards of ALL shows available for sale, like almost all jambands do these days. Because the album just does not compare to the jams they are kicking down on those tunes onstage...

super stoked to have a ticket for one more show on 7/30...

Long Live the Smashing Pumpkins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Opening with three songs I've never heard. Can someone direct me to a place where I could?

dunno man. i haven't been following for a while, but this setlist is a bit of a surprise to me. i thought they have had a lot better this tour. especially for those residency shows.

So they stopped playing Hummer and TAFH?

They better play those in Boston.

I think it's important to remember that Jeff and Ginger don't have a working knowledge of the entire pumpkins catalogue. they're basically learning songs as corgan feels they are ready to and he's not going to keep hammering them with new songs until they have the ones they're already playing down to a science. he's a perfectionist in that regard.

when they were sound-checking in asheville, they'd play the same song 10 times or more until they'd got it down perfectly. at that rate, what're the chances that they'll learn more than 2 or 3 new songs every other week?
