Hey everyone, good morning, afternoon, evening - wherever you are.

When I first saw the title "7 Shades of Black," I naturally assumed that this represented the 7 years the Pumpkins had been broken up. I then saw the lyrics, and have the following theory:

This song is entirely about James and D'Arcy. There are several lyrics that led me to this conclusion, and if you read them, with this concept in mind, I'm sure you will be able to see the possible link. Of course, the final lyric, "As St. Patrick pipes on" refers to William Patrick Corgan, going on without his former bandmates.

Anyway, I apologize if this has already been mentioned elsewhere. If not, you can tell all your friends and take credit for it yourself :flirt:

Okay, all the best!
-Brian

I was discussing this with my brother and we were thinking it was more likely that it was about Yelena and the fallout after the relationship ended and so forth.

Oh no, you mentioned Staind. Thanks for ruining my day.

Anyway... I've stated this before... I think 7 Shades is Billy ripping on emo wannabes who think of themselves as the new Pumpkins or whatever. The lines "'Cause I want you bad", "fall in hate with me" and "crying out for doom" all remind me of when Billy poked fun at teen angst-laden goths in "Here is No Why." The difference there was that at least I think he was semi-sympathetic to them because he kind of falls in that category to an extent, whereas the emo generation is just a bunch of idiots who don't have any real basis for their supposed angst other than "that bitch dumped me."
