lan/wireless connection question

i've tried connecting my laptop as part of a lan,as a laptop on it's own and over a wireless connection. Everytime i connect fine and can send data but either recieve no data or between 1 and 7 packets.

For the lan/laptop on it's own i changed it from automatic settings to type in my own details. I found the details through run - ipconfig.

Any idea as to why i can't recieve data?

Well, the obvious culprit might be a firewall, but I guess you've probably turned it off. I assume it wasn't working with the automatic settings? I'm not really big on network stuff, maybe Will or Mark can help.

Are you using netgear? Mine just worked, I didn't have to configure anything
