why is it called baked ziti?

i thought it was penne pasta. why is it called baked ziti after it is baked and smothered in cheese and whatnot? perhaps im just not smart, but i think it should remain penne. like why not call it baked penne smothered in cheese and whatnot. then they could put like non-fat on front so people will eat it.





is it even penne in the first place? looks like penne.

like me pappa always says, looks like penne, walks like penne, quacks like penne, its penne. maby he said duck, but we're talking about ziti.

They call it baked ziti because it is (supposed to be at least) ziti pasta that has been baked. See, baked is an adjective that modifies the noun ziti.

you can google most anything, but people still come here to ask questions. why? because they like having the answers find them, not the other way around.

and it's actually a legit question. I've been to restaurants that actually serve penne instead of ziti in their baked ziti dishes. don't ask me why.

what I want to know is, is there more of a difference in all these pasta pieces besides shape and texture? I can never tell, but I've heard rumors of such things.
