This is the only one on which I am still undecided.
I'm a bigger fan of Modest Mouse, but I think that song falls in the middle when it comes to the quality of their collection, and I quite like the Donelly song, which is new to me, so hmm...
And suspiciously, they are both exactly the same length. I smell conspiracy!

PS. You misspelled Donelly, which seems to be commonly done.

Donelly...It just looks wrong!
I haven't really listened to any of the songs yet, actually. I've waited for the voting. It's really late, so I'll get to all of it tomorrow.

Gets my vote.
This was really tough, but I'm giving the edge to

because I was wowed the first time I heard it. And while I really like the Modest Mouse track, I can't say the same about it. But both are excellent.

I agree. I love Modest Mouse, but I think I actually prefer "The Storm". I had never heard of that artist before Andy's pick, so big ups to Brooklyn... or something.

Listened to "The Storm" a few times and realized I kept cringing whenever the vocalist would try to hit some drawback falsetto or some shit (quick examples: 00:02 - 00:04, 00:16 - 00:18). Like nails on a chalkboard. The song isn't bad though, so it easily beats Modest Mouse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zNa9oHkfcc). Never understood what was the big deal about that band. I know that was prety rough, sorry guys.

While Mr. Feel the Funny managed to pick the worst fucking song on The Lonesome Crowded West, it's miles above "The Storm," which is hella grating.

Duh.
I will say that I like a handful of Modest Mouse songs, but I really hate the rest of their output - this would fall in line with the latter.

You realize that now nobody else can pick a great Modest Mouse song for this competition, right? You picked a pretty shitty/average Modest Mouse song and I wanted it to lose... but the competition didn't do anything for me at all. I even wanted Tanya to win because of my Breeders love, but shit... that song did nothing for me.
Winner: Modest Mouse

What's everyone's favorite Modest Mouse song? For me, it's "The Stars Are Projectors", hands down.
"Tiny Cities Made of Ashes" is also great, but in a much different way. TSAP is just such an amazing song.

This is a catchy track, and I've always enjoyed the kick-in of the drums and riff at the beginning. I'm totally voting on song-favoritism here. The Donelly song is heartfelt and well-assembled, but reminds me of the radio station whose demographic is just a bit older than mine, that somehow makes me uncomfortable enough to turn the dial. I will learn to love this song in exactly six years' time.

This was a hard one but I have to go with The Storm as it is still an interesting song after multiple listens [and because Ms. Tanya was the co-founder of one of my favorite groups (Throwing Muses)]. So vote is for tremorchrists's pick.

Not overtly impressed by either, but this one is the better of the two.

Not a huge fan of either, but Donnelly does take it. The Modest Mouse song...that wasn't very good, I'm afraid!

Cowboy Dan, Teeth Like God's Shoeshine, Broke, Custom Concern... also the songs you mentioned are probably my favorites from The Moon and Antarctica.

Tanya Donnelly. I couldn't make it all the way through the Modest Mouse one. In fairness, I didn't make it all the way through the Donelly one, either.

Yeah, I didn't like either one all that much, but I was through with the Modest Mouse song pretty fast on in. Made me want to stab myself in the eye. Worse than most of their pretty rank material.
Donelly by default.

I actually think there were quite a few I didn't make it through. I never simply stopped listening to any of the tracks - I made sure to skip ahead in case there were any major changes, but the a large portion of the songs were of the "heard the first 15 seconds & you've heard the whole thing".
This thread got me listening to "Lonesome Crowded West", and I noticed that "Heart Cooks Brain" actually works when it's in the context of the album.

by the way Hohn I've posted of my love for the Stars are Projectors before :) I'm not the biggest MM fan, I like a few of their songs a lot though and Stars are Projectors is just RaD. Actually I mostly like the Moon and Antarctica album.
I also like Tayna a lot :)

I'm going with Joliet's Green Onions pick: Modest Mouse - Heart Cooks Brain (http://download.yousendit.com/C75040871B7DCDBE) it's certainly not my favourite Modest Mouse track but I much prefer it over the Tanya Donelly track which made my head hurt :\

Not so fast, padre! A lot of people might suddenly think 'Hey, I really like Modest Mouse!' and vote against you. It's not extremely likely, but it could happen.
