Say what you will about microsoft, but this is fucking insane. Granted, the cost for something like this would probably be so out of hand, that we won't be seeing this integrated into our daily lives for quite some time. But the same could have been said about flat screen TV's, and look where we are now. Interesting at the least, no?

I was aware of the technology, but this is the first time I've seen the hypothetical interface. Pretty interesting. The bit with it displaying phone specs etc has huge potential.
It's not that expensive apparently maybe 10k or so - there was a bit on it in my morning paper.

Implemented properly it could be extremely popular. Especially if it meshes well with other future household devices like TVs, Hifis, consoles etc.

Straight outta the gate, that's not as bad as I though. I can already see big companies like best buy and virgin (megastore) taking advantage first.

In this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9j_tYP-kzc), it says $5-10k, which is fantastically cheap. Expensive for a home computer, of course, but as mentioned, as an introductory price, it's excellent.
They also show a part where people can split their restaurant tab by placing their credit/debit cards on the surface, and move the items onto the different cards. That is such an awesome idea. Seems like it will be awhile before Applebee's spends $10k on each table, though.
I just have to wonder whether the surface would get messed up. I mean, people are stupid, and all demo models at places like Best Buy get busted up within minutes of being on the floor. Hell, the electronic signature tablet at my bank has people's signatures in ink.

Plus it's Microsoft, so I suspect we will all soon become very familiar with "the blue table of death." :ok:
Yeah that's what I thought when I read it was running on Vista or whatever.

Yeah. And Vista wouldn't work with Microsoft's own MP3 player at first, so I'm not sure how exactly it's supposed to handle complicated credi card transactions and all that phone stuff. But we'll see, maybe it'll kick all kinds of ass.

In limited applications I think it could do well. As long as the OS is suitably fool proof. Cos the reg woud have to be pretty tightly sealed to prevent screwin up the interface etc.
