Ahh, the blue screen of death. I occasionally get kernel data inpage errors, usually when things seem to be slow with my external hard drive. One thing I read is that they often occur when the master hard drive is in the slave position. Is there any way to tell if the hard drive is in the slave position without opening up my laptop?

I hate my computer.

JA get into your BIOS. Nt sure what key you have to press to get into Dell BIOS, try F2 or something. It will say what the slave and master =

For Dell, Bios is F12. Good luck.

Well, the Blue Screen o' Death keeps happening, and the file that's always mentioned is atapi.sys, which is apparently used for hard drives bigger than a certain size (I have a 40 GB internal, and 80 GB external).

Basically, it just does the whole "0x0000007a (blah blah blah)" thing, then:

"atapi.sys - Address F8FA7CA8"

Looking on the interweb as we speak for possible solutions...

The more I read, the more this seems to be untrue. atapi.sys seems to be tied to optical drives, and my DVD drive, as mentioned, is pretty messed up. I'm wondering whether there is a way to replace the file or such...

Well, I found an interesting connection here. Things get really messed up when I open a mp3 I downloaded from YouSendIt (one I uploaded myself). Now, I didn't download it to the hard drive, but I just opened it with Winamp. Playing it once seemed to be fine, but playing it the second time made Firefox to stop responding to my actions (not the "Not Responding" warning, it actually just stopped doing anything). Last time, everything started to freeze up and I got the blue screen of death.

This time, I closed Winamp before things got out of control, and I got a "Delayed Write Failed" message. I'm guessing there is some problem with Virtual Memory? I cleared my Pagefile, so I'm guessing that's not it unless the problem comes back as a symptom of something else.

I hate my computer.
