Anyone interested? Cos I'm super fucking hyped about it [/fanboi]. Me and another guy are making a mod for it already (just making art assets at the moment, although it's going slowly since my current laptop isn't even capable of running Maya properly; what we've done so far is good though).

Assuming anyone IS interested, do you think they'll manage to avoid it being like UT200x (shite) and get it more like UT (good) was? With, of course, new stuff and originality and stuff. I'm optimistic, but I think there's a lot of ways they could mess it up.

It's, like, a space dogfighting type thing. The idea is, in the main game mode, each team starts off in a huge mothership thing, and players go to the docking bay, get into a ship (of which there are about 7 types per team, or will be), fly out, kick the shit out of the other team, land in the other mothership, kick the shit out of the other team on foot, kick the shit out of the other teams mothership's power cores or what the hell ever, blow up the mothership.

There's 3 teams, each of which is a race (Humans and two alien species) with different ships and weapons (although they all have the same classes of both, its just that they differ slightly within these classes - balancing would be a pain in the arse otherwise). The ships are two fighter classes (one man), a bomber class (2 man), 3 corvette class (3 man) and a frigate class (6 man), with possibilities of other less important types in between.

It's semi-realistic, in that the flight physics aren't the standard watered down stuff which just feels like a bad flight sim. The idea is you dont have a speed control, only a thrust button which fires the main engine. Thus you can turn around without thrusting, strafe, and do all kinds of stuff when you get used to it. There is a speed cap, because otherwise people would just accelerate for ages and not be able to stop, but it feels really fluid to play. We've got a version working in UT2004, from when we were doing it for that game, so we know how it plays, but the models are just really basic versions and there's no game modes yet. Like I say, all we're doing at this point is making the models and textures for UT3 since we have no way to implement anything until the game comes out.

To summarise, go here: http://mods.moddb.com/7130/third-contingent/
It's the old version, there's no pics of what we're working on at the moment, but it's basically the same thing in spirit.

That sounds really cool. The UT engine is so versatile. I remember there was a football mod where it was 11 vs 11.

Your mod reminds me of a top down inertia spaceship game that I can't remember the name of.

I never played any of the UT200x series but I LOVED UT. It was the last real FPS I loved (before that... Duke 3D + Doom, and Hexen to a lesser extent).
