i've never had a cheesesteak and unless my eating habits change, i probably never will.

i believe this is due to the "steak" part of cheesesteak.

I don't remember. I vaguely remember being in Philly, which was probably when I was really little. I'm sure I must have, but there is no way I remember it.

For the record, I also shun the cheeze whiz style of topping. A local chain, "Planet Wings", makes a pretty tasty cheesesteak, but the American cheese topping taste like cheesewhiz. According to the Wikipedia entry, Cheeze Whiz isn't just popular in Philly, but actually one of the earlier original versions of it. The cheesesteak they make, while tasting excellent because of some kind of teryiaki sauce, is kind of poor quality meat. Doesn't stop it from tasting awesome.

I like to have provolone or cheddar. Swiss is good too.

Only kidding, I found it funny that, again, according to the Wikipedia article, John Kerry ordered one with Swiss, which is a photo-op gone bad. I generally dislike Swiss anyway.

BTW, Meghan, is the ordering procedure mentioned in Wikipedia true?

without looking i can assure you that the ordering procedure is accurate. but it's not all soup nazi or anything, they won't not serve you if you're not down with the lingo. however, you MUST speak english. :D

and john kerry looked like the biggest fucking tool on the planet when he ordered a cheesesteak with swiss, haha. he probably thought it came with a side of caviar too.

Do they even make them with Swiss?

Meghan unfortunately the cheesesteaks we got weren't that great - my aunt & uncle were disappointed. They live in Norristown and don't go into the city often, so oh well. It was some joint on South St.

gadzooks, norristown?! why didn't you say so? my grandparents live there. well, not in the "ghetto" norristown, but in east norriton, with a norristown address. and that is not meant to imply that your aunt and uncle live in the ghetto part. :D

there are some GREAT cheesteak places on south, like jim's. some say jim's is better than both pat's and geno's. steaks on south i'm not such a fan of though. and of course there are other places that have them on the menu.

and no- they do not come with swiss. which is why he looked like such a schmuck.

I 've been to Philadelphia once and contemplated the cheesesteak but ended up buying cheap chinese instead.
