i'll have to say 'where boys fear to tread's

"on dead highways, her black beauties roam
for june angels, so far from home
for a love lost, a faded picture
to tread lightning, to ink the lavender skies"

"to ink the lavender skies" - it bloows me away every &%#¤%¤#& time.

Billy Doesnt write good lyrics (for the most part) - let's be honest here.

his zwan lryics were better IMO.

though, the best pumpkins lyrics probably go to Czarina.

you don't think billy writes good lyrics..you should open up the booklet to siamese dream, mellon collie, adore, and machina-maybe it'll change your mind?

Adore has the best lyrics of any pumpkins record.

Machina has a few bright spots.

The heavy stuff on Mellon Collie is his low point.

He's no Bob Dylan, but I appreciate his directness. I wrote a Zwan review a while back that encapsulates the way I feel about his lyrics.

I really like the lyrics to Stand Inside Your Love. When I'm feeling really emo they make me cry. :D

And from Rocket I've always liked "I miss me/I miss everything I'll never be".

I think that sometimes strong melodies can be mistaken for good lyrics.

I like the words of 33 the most, they create a really beautiful sentiment to me, and i also love the video.

No.

Honestly, my favorite Pumpkins lyric, besides "Thirty-Three," is probably "Stumbleine."

Tales of a Scorched Earth, haha.

Farewell goodnight last one out turn out the lights
And let me be, let me die inside
Let me know the way from of this world of hate in you
Cause the dye is cast, and the bitch is back
And we're all dead yeah we're all dead
In side the future of a shattered past
I lie just to be real, and I'd die just to feel
Why do the same old things keep on happening?
Because beyond my hopes there are no feelings
Bless the martyrs and kiss the kids
For knowing better, for knowing this
Cause you're all whores and I'm a fag
And I've got no mother and I've got no dad
To save me the wasted, save me from myself
I lie just to be real, and I'd die just to feel
Why do the same old things keep on happening?
Because beyond my hopes there are no feelings
Everbody's lost just waiting to be found
Everyone's a thought just waiting to fade
So fuck it all cause I don't care
So what somehow somewhere we dared
To try to dare to dare for a little more
I lie just to be real, and I'd die just to feel
Why do the same old things keep on happening?
Because beyond my hopes there are no reasons

oh billy.

(I really love the song though)

alright, so he isnt as bad a lyrcicist as i painted him up as; but he really does have his low points.

One could easily say the same about Robert Plant, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, and a whole shitload of other bands. In fact, I think that this can be said about any band; so why exactly does this matter?

And by the way, I would have to say my favorite lyrics from billy are 'For Martha'.

the deciding factor is whether the "low points" outweigh the greatness

I don't regard Billy as a bad lyricist. All his angsty teen lyrics are deliberately so. I think the lyrics in songs like Soma are good at commuinicating the song's feeling. His less abstract than a lot of other bands, if you conisder that to bea sign of bad lyrics.

I love all of Billy's lyrics, myself.
But Thirty-Three comes to mind. I love the lyrics in that song.

I like Billy's lyrics. They've been always very meaningfull to me and somehow they have inspired my songwriting (among other people, of course).

I love the spoken part in Cupid de Locke, even though I know I can get nailed for sayin' that . But I love them.

The best lyrics are on Adore.

"Where Boys Fear to Tread" does have some awesome imagery. I think some people criticize Corgan's lyrics for not being more straightforward. It's true, though, that he does sometimes write obscurely. I wonder sometimes if he really knows what he's talking about: if it's complex for the sake of being complex, or obscure to sound mysterious, when it's really not. But on "Tread", I think he hits a high point of writing. The lyrics aren't something you can "get" right away, but they do create certain emotions and feelings that Corgan intends you to feel.

Or I could be totally off base here and the lyrics are just about his love for bananas or monkey poo.
