The more educated Kate fan will generally complain about this one - after all, it is your
average Greatest Hits collection, with a smidgen of new stuff thrown in for good measure. However, for the uninitiated Kate fan, this is certainly a good place to start. Released in 1986, after the massive success of "Hounds of Love", this sold just as well, and for a good reason - it's a great collection. I mean, look at the tracklisting! Wuthering Heights (presented here in a new vocal version - you could debate all day about whether old or new would triumph, but i think they're just as good as each other)...Running Up That Hill, Cloudbusting, Babooshka, Man with The Child In His Eyes, Wow...and of course, Breathing, a song which, on it's own, makes the album worth the money (At least, for those who don't have Never Forever). Of course, for the gentleman who's already a fan of Kate's, there's the new song. A wonderful, wonderful ditty by the name of "Experiment IV", which rides on a catchy riff, and Nigel Kennedy's excellent violin in the chorus. Utterly infectious - a good single. Generally, I like this collection - it does show a lot of sides of Kate Bush, including her "mad" side (The Dreaming, despite not really being a hit, is included here), the piano, the full-out rock, and of course, songs that are utterly memorable. If you want to start with Kate, then this isn't a bad place to begin your journey (Although personally, i'd stick a copy of Hounds of Love in your hands and then tell you to thank me later)...for the huge Kate fan, it's certainly not worth a 10. However, for the uninitiated Kate fan, it certainly is worth a 10. Reviewer Rating of CD : ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
