With Love & Distortion, San Fransisco's indie rockers The Stratford 4 wear their influences proudly on their sleeve. In some cases it seems, however, that they wear them a little too proudly. The band mentions Echo & the Bunnymen, T. Rex, and Belle & Sebastian in their songs which seems a little tacky.

But all in all, it's a good record. It's obvious that the members of the band have great taste (The My Bloody Valentine, Velvet Underground, and Spacemen 3 influences are beyond obvious) which makes for good listening.

It should also be noted that lead singer Chris Steng was once a member of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and that these two bands are also similar in many ways.

There are some good songs on this album, and some mediocre ones. My favorite song on the record would definitely have to be "The Simple Things Are Taking Over".

This album isn't great, but it isn't bad either. Fans of B.R.M.C. and The Dandy Warhols may want to listen to it just for the hell of it.
