It's hard not to love Super Furry Animals. Their music is fun, fresh, and remains a critic's delight. Perhaps the best Furries at their best is illustrated on their second release, "Radiator." Frolicking through hooks and hymns that drop names of today's favorite revolutionaries (Che Guevara and Valentine Strasser get rhyme time), there is not one boring moment on this record.

The quirky Welsh quintet create an essential mix of balls out ballads with fuzzy and fucked up rockers to balance out one of the best records of the 90s. Vocalist Gruff Rhys' lyrics are smart, aware and weird enough to keep the indie charm and alienate a good deal of the masses. In a song dedicated to the bizarre "Puerto Rican Goat Eating Bat" called Chupacabras, Rhys howls, "Have you heard about the bat? Eats a goat and then your cat!" Not much interpretation is needed, but I dare others to find another pop song dedicated to the Chupacabras.

Although the Furries have grown and matured in their later albums, The Welsh language album, "Mwng" and the critically acclaimed "Rings Around the World," they always retain the fun charm and solid song writing of their best album, "Radiator." I highly recommend this to anyone that loves big choruses and original lyrics.
