This stunning and complex debut from Gomez, now increasingly regarded as pioneers of the new wave of cruisy, spicy, modern electro-blues, is alternately devastatingly ambitious and pleasingly simple. The first track, Get Miles, opens with the whiskey-and-cigars-blown-through-a-foghorn voice of one of their three vocalists, Ben Ottewell, perhaps Gomezís most distinguishing feature and all the reason you need to replay this album as soon as it draws to its too-sudden end. A sensual concoction of inventive sampling, soaring guitars, addictive melodies, quirky humour, charming lyrics and stampeding jazz, Bring It On wonít release your body from its involuntary swing for weeks and has undoubtedly set an impossible standard for future debut artists.
